Like most things in fashion, celebrating body positivity and size inclusivity often feel like a passing trend. Even from a personal pov - its alot about unpacking and reshifting our own learned standards of beauty and what beauty, freedom and joy look like to us.

It feels like some of us are finally let inside of the party but only for a hot minute, the time is ticking and the sun is quickly setting on the fragments of our unconventional forms of beauty and joy that we’ve been waiting way too long to be seen, felt and illuminated.

I made this image in bedok reservoir; the reservoir signifies a large supply of water waiting to be utilised, it is also a place of familiarity and an appropriate metaphorical backdrop for the conversation on visibility and representation.

During the extended period of time spend at home, I started thinking a lot about visibility and the role of local mainstream media when it comes to accurately portraying and representing the existence and stories of qpoc.

It felt important to talk about visibility especially in our local context. When qpoc and their stories are given the opportunity to be illuminated and seen, their existence becomes shining beacons of light for many others to hopefully be able to catch tiny glimpses of themselves in its reflection.
