Ajrakh: The Blue Gold unfolds at the Innovation Gallery, Textile Gallery II β Tradition and Innovation, National Crafts Museum & Hastkala Academy, New Delhi, on the occasion of International Museum Day.
The inauguration was graced by Honβble Chief Guests Smt. Amrit Raj, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, (@dc_handicrafts), and Dr. M. Beena, Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles (@texminindia), (@dc_handlooms), Government of India.
Curated by Sunil Sethi and theΒ @fdciofficialΒ team, the exhibition traces the journey of Ajrakh from its origins in Kutch to its contemporary reinterpretations, celebrating the craftβs intricate processes, natural dyes, and evolving design language.
The Ajrakh exhibition examines the craftβs journey through various artistic applications. The display features works that highlight both its traditional foundation and contemporary evolution. Shelly Jyoti (@shellyjyoti1211), a contemporary textile artist, explores a modern, experimental dimension via an extensive collection on Khadi. Master craftsman Khalid Amin Khatri (@artmin_ajrakh)βs modal silk ensemble demonstrates the discipline of the traditional Ajrakh process. Garments from FDCI designer Anju Modi (@anjumodi) showcases Ajrakh on linen, while Rajesh Pratap Singh (@rajeshpratapsinghworks) showcases Ajrakh sarees on Kota textile. Additionally, a few garments from FDCI designers Divya Sheth (@divyashethofficial) and Sonia Jetleey (@sonia_jetleey) showcase the craft in a wearable context. The exhibition brings together diverse artistic and design perspectives rooted in Indiaβs rich textile heritage.
