How many begonias per pot? A guide👇

If you have some spare pots, fill them with begonias for summer and autumn colour! Save 60% on begonia tubers in our sale. Here’s how many you’ll need for different pots sizes:

20cm pot = 1 tuber
30cm pot = 3 tubers
40cm pot = 5 tubers
50cm pot = 7 tubers

Tubers begonias grow into quite large plants over the season. The best thing about them is that you can remove the tubers from the pots at the end of the season, store them in a shed or garage over winter and then use them again next year! They grow well in shade too 💚🌸

These are so easy and low maintenance! Crocosmia are hardy perennials and grow in most places, providing the soil isn’t too dry. They have sword-like foliage which is lush through the season, topped with exotic-looking arched flower heads in summer. Every year the bulbs multiply, eventually forming a good clump. A spectacular plant for shade! Astilbes like damp soil, which makes them useful for areas with clay soil or near water. Providing the soil doesn’t regularly dry out, they cope in a sunny position as well as shade. They grow to be quite large plants, even in the first year. Create a combination with them in borders, or start one in a large container with some smaller perennials to accompany it in the first year. Geraniums and aquilegias are good companions if your planting space is in shade.

The Geum we planted last year is double the size this year! Geum ‘Pretticoats Peach’ produced several flowers last year, it even still has a couple of flowers in autumn! This year it has masses of blooms. Geums typically flower around May, but this variety is extra generous because it repeat flowers through the season. When they have shoots already! 🌱
Just plant at the usual depth, the bulb can be on its side if the shoot is growing at an angle. The tops of the shoots can be left exposed, or covered with soil if they’re not yet long enough. The shoots will continue to grow straight upwards and green up soon after planting. Lilies are brilliant for quick results, these should be flowering in just a couple of months time!

You don’t have to do this, dahlias grow beautifully without being ‘pinched out’. But if you do, it will result in a bushier plant with more stems/branches and this usually means more flowers. Pinch or cut off the main shoot just above the third set of leaves. Two branches will begin to form from this branching point. They might not grow to full height if they’re pinched out. Do you pinch out your dahlias or just let them grow however they like? 🌸
