🤷🏻‍♀️Why does artistic nudity get flagged online—even when it’s museum-worthy?
🤷🏽‍♀️Why are “female-presenting” bodies policed differently than “male-presenting” ones?
🤷‍♀️And what can artists actually do when censorship isn’t illegal?

Your body is being censored, and it’s even worse than you think... DON’T MISS THIS EVENT! Register now 👆👆👆

Our bodies are being regulated. Our visibility is being decided. And it’s happening quietly—through algorithms, policies, and platforms we’re told are “neutral.”

On April 14, we are honored to present award-winning author and activist Soraya Chemaly, and MacArthur Fellow Safiya Noble for a powerful conversation at the intersection of technology, gender, and power.

@sorayachemaly (Rage Becomes Her, All We Want Is Everything)will unpack how the nipple became a site of control online—revealing the deeper systems of censorship shaping whose bodies are allowed to exist.

Dr. Noble (Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism) will expose how algorithms and search engines don’t just reflect culture—they actively produce it, reinforcing racism, sexism, and exclusion.

This isn’t just about content.

It’s about control. It’s about visibility. It’s about who gets to be seen—and who is erased.

📅 April 14
⏰ 18:00–19:15 CEST
📍 Online (link! ☝️☝️☝️)
Hosted by National Coalition Against Censorship

Be there. Learn. Push back.

❤️‍🔥Thank you Dr. Carolina Are @bloggeronpole for joining us to discuss all things “Sexy Jail,” the broligarchy of the tech industry, and the effects of content moderation and account health for creators!

Dr. Are joined DDA’s Editor-At-Large @exshaps to discuss her latest paper, “‘Sexy jail’ and performative transparency”, examines Instagram’s Account Status tools and how so-called transparency mechanisms impact creators’ visibility, creativity, and livelihoods - particularly those who use the body as form of expression. Her research highlights how moderation systems can shape not just online reach, but offline artistic practice and community. Find it in our bio link today!

Dr. Are joined us during our @freethenipple X @dontdelete.art collaboration to discuss platform governance, shadowbanning, and the realities of content moderation for creators like you. This session is part of our ongoing IG Live series spotlighting leading voices in content moderation, tech policy, and feminist approaches to online spaces.

🎙️ In this bold and timely episode of Women United ART PODCAST, we welcome back artist, writer, and digital rights advocate Emma Shapiro for a powerful conversation about censorship, body politics, and the future of artistic freedom online.

After facing censorship of her own work, Emma transformed personal frustration into global advocacy. As Editor-at-Large of Don’t Delete Art, she now works at the intersection of art and policy, collaborating with major institutions and digital rights organizations to ensure that artists are recognized not just as content creators — but as cultural rights defenders.

We dive into the upcoming 2026 collaboration between Don’t Delete Art and Free the Nipple, unpacking why nipple censorship remains a flashpoint in broader conversations about gender bias, algorithmic moderation, and the suppression of artistic expression. Together, we explore self-censorship, platform power, and what it will take to build a digital landscape where artists can create without fear.

This episode is essential listening for anyone navigating the online art world — and anyone who believes creative freedom is worth protecting.

This #InternationalWomensDay, AGL honours the extraordinary women creatives whose paths have crossed ours. Some of them share their reflections on what it means to create — and to resist — as women.

Tashnuva Anan @tashnuva_anan is a Bangladeshi model, actress and activist working to advance the rights of transgender communities across South Asia. She is the first openly transgender news anchor in Bangladesh and the first transgender model from Bangladesh to walk at @nyfashionweek. She has starred in plays at @sohorep and her journey was featured in @nytimes.

Zahra Abrahimi @abrahimi________is an Afghan painter and muralist whose art challenged Taliban rule, forcing her into exile. After three years in Pakistan, she managed to find a safe haven in France, where she continues to confront gender apartheid through her art, documenting injustice, and bringing visibility to women’s struggles and resistance in Afghanistan.

Arina Boyko @arinakoriandr is a Russian writer and LGBTQIA+ advocate. Her essays and short stories explore themes of identity and the intersection of personal and political issues. She is the founding editor-in-chief of @neznanie.journal, a Russian-language literary journal amplifying marginalised voices under censorship.

Emma Shapiro @exshaps is an American artist, activist and freelance journalist based in Spain. Editor-at-large for @dontdelete.art her work explores artistic freedom, digital rights, body politics, identity and memory — and her experience of censorship continues to fuel her advocacy.

We stand with women artists everywhere who refuse to be silenced. Your creativity is resistance. Your voice matters.

“DDA Interview With… @alphachanneling ” !In this latest installment of our running interview series, Editor-at-Large Emma Shapiro @exshaps sits down with renowned artist Alphachanneling for a powerful conversation on censorship, suppression, and survival in today’s algorithm-driven digital landscape.

Listen on Spotify or YouTube — links in bio🫶 (or search for Don’t Delete Art on both platforms😉)
Prefer to read? 👩🏽‍💻The full conversation is transcribed on our blog, accompanied by featured artwork.

With over one million followers, Alphachanneling has spent the past decade exploring the “utopian erotic,” prolifically producing intimate, dreamlike works celebrating sexuality, vulnerability, safety, and human connection through line, color, and magical realism. Yet as moderation systems become increasingly automated and opaque, his livelihood and creative voice have faced repeated disruption.

From losing a decade of digital history overnight to navigating AI moderation and shadow suppression, this conversation dives into:
✨ The emotional + financial toll of deplatforming
✨ The quiet homogenization of art online
✨ The pressure to self-censor intimate themes
✨ Whether artists must adapt — or resist

Featured in the Don’t Delete Art Gallery of Art Censored Online, and DDA’s contribution to the groundbreaking New York exhibition Don’t Look Now, presented by Art at a Time Like This, Alphachanneling reflects not only on what’s being lost — but on how artists preserve joy, intimacy, and possibility in antagonistic systems.

This year began with Meta promising to fewer “mistakes” and more “freedom of expression.” For many artists facing takedowns, shadowbans, and even account loss, those words likely feel ironic at best by now.

And yet — this year the movement to defend artists online has grown. New doors have opened, new alliances have formed, and together we’ve pushed the conversation into spaces where artists’ voices are too often missing.

We remain the only group dedicated to protecting visual artists’ rights online — and this year we worked to make censorship visible, impossible to ignore, and harder to dismiss.

This year we…
• Spoke at @unesco + @rightscon
• Attended the Coalition for Independent Tech Research summit, @mozilla Festival, and @alltechishumanorg gatherings
• Built bridges with the legal community, presenting with @lca_illinois , @avant.garde.lawyers , and the @barreira_arte_y_diseno Masters Programme.
• Featured in art events @falloffreedom , @decentraland_foundation Art Week, and Don’t Look Now presented by @artatatimelikethis
• Were included in a report by UN Special Rapporteur @xanthakialexandra
• Supported artists with updated resources
• Launched our “DDA: An Interview With…” series featuring interviews with @armandocabba & @katshawartist
• Continued building pathways for fair dispute resolution in Europe by connecting with @appeals_centre & @user.rights

Through it all, one belief remains constant:
artists deserve visibility — and a voice — online.

💛 If you value artistic freedom, please consider supporting our work — link in bio.

☠️Watch Out☠️ Meta has been busy taking down and restricting accounts belonging to artists, activists, LGBTQ groups, & reproductive health and abortion access providers❗️
Reports to DDA include accounts that had no prior recent violations, no warning, and the action following posts of fully guideline-abiding content❗️
This also is taking place just as we are also receiving reports of the return of the “segshul sullicitashun” violation ☠️
Take precautions, take screen grabs of your account and health status NOW as they could become useful, and report any art suppression, restrictions, censorship, or takedowns to DDA (including account takedowns!)

Report Art suppression! : Www.dontdelete.art/submit , DM, or email us at dontdeleteart@gmail.com

Stay safe out there artists!

Thank you so much to the activists and researchers who have been following this unsettling trend and sounding the alarm- including @bloggeronpole @efforg and @reprouncensored
Head to their pages to find the @guardian article about it!
