It means so much to me to be able to bring cutting-edge technology to remote locations and make such an impactful discovery.

In this episode, we discuss the moment we used Lidar and photogrammetry to uncover lost sarcophagi in El Tigre, Peru.

Working with @exploreralbert and Duncan Lees on this project was an incredible experience… seeing the emotional reaction from the local community makes all the hard work worth it.

Check out ā€˜Lost Cities Revealed’ on National Geographic to see the full story! More coming soon!

@exploreralbert joined former professional skier and Summit’s Chief Community Officer, @langemcneal , for a conversation at the edge of science and lived experience, and explored how moments of rupture—from traumatic injury to near-death states—can fundamentally reshape the brain’s model of reality.

Through emerging research on sensory substitution and neuroplasticity, a deeper truth emerges: perception is not passive, but actively constructed. And under the right conditions, that construction can change. Drawing from Lin’s lived experience of physical loss and adaptation, alongside research on altered states and rewiring, this session examines how disruption can become a portal for transformation.

If the brain can change its model of the world, what are the limits of who we can become?

There is nothing quite like standing at the edge of a mountain with your family — a sea of peaks falling away on all sides, the weather doing its thing, and a whole day of memory making in front of you.And the truth is flying down our home mnt @mammothmountain is where I rebuilt my sense of self after loosing my leg, and now the same is for my kids in their own journeys.

We ride the wake of snow created in storms because it’s fun. And fun matters. Seeking joy, is one of the best parts of being alive.
I am a guy who likes to search for roots in lost cities, so quirky note, just found a 1596 manuscript that was recently translated, which described Norwegians as people who ā€œrun very quickly over the high and snow-covered cliffs on special long and wide boards.ā€ Four hundred years later, the boards are shorter but the instinct is the same.
We don’t escape to the mountains. We return to them.

This season we are grateful to have been riding with @ikonpass — it’s helped us meet communities around the globe as a family. The line you choose is yours to define. Lock it in now. The story starts before the snow falls.

It’s been one year since I almost died. I now come back to the mountain where it happened and face it with gratitude alongside the community who’s led me through this. Thank you to everyone who supported me along the way. You all have taught me that recovery is about being ready for whats to come and spending it with those you love. -Charlie Lin

Looks like high-end VFX, but it was actually just me, a laptop, and a lot of caffeine deep inside a cave...

I’m so proud of what we pulled off for Lost Cities Revealed with @exploreralbert in this episode. Capturing 3D graphics on location in real-time is a massive challenge… especially when you’re doing it single-handedly.

There are no ā€œre-takesā€ when you’re chasing the light and history at the same time. The reveal at the end of this clip is my favorite part because it shows the raw, unedited hustle behind the tech.

Massive shout out to Ben Harding and @savage_kt who produced and directed this episode and made the impossible possible.

They say you can’t find what isn’t lost, but the Inca did a pretty good job of hiding these cities!

Spent some time with the team in Peru for 'Lost Cities with Albert Lin', hunting for circular foundations and ancient signatures hidden under hidden under dense mountain scrub and long grass. It’s a wild mix of rugged exploration and intense data crunching.... all from a tent at 4000m altitude.

Turns out, the best way to see the past is through a #pointcloud. Now, if @exploreralbert and I can just use this tech to find where I left the car keys, we’ll really be in business...

The adventure doesn’t stop when the cameras go off. It’s just getting started…

Excited to announce a new social series: ā€˜Behind the Scans’
I’ve spent years traveling the globe with @exploreralbert , using high-tech sensors to peel back the jungle and reveal lost civilisations for @natgeo . Now, we’ll take you inside the workstation to show you how we actually solve these ancient theories using 3D data.

Charlie Lin @charlie_lin2 invites us to reconsider what we think we know about limitation.

At 15, he nearly lost his life in a skiing accident that resulted in a stage two diffuse axonal injury. In the aftermath, he temporarily lost the ability to breathe on his own. What could have been the end of his story became the beginning of a deeper understanding of resilience.

In his TEDxTorreyPines talk, Where the Brain Ends and the Mind Begins, Charlie explores the powerful distinction between physical injury and mental possibility. The brain can be shaken. The body can be broken. But the mind still has the capacity to choose gratitude, growth, and perspective.

Having come face to face with mortality, Charlie now asks a simple question: How often do we pause to appreciate something as basic as breathing on our own?

Watch the full talk. Link in bio.

Clip from the full TEDxTorreyPines talk, shortened for social by @amy_sandiegoca, Event Organizer.
