A special new addition has arrived at the Cathedral Shop! You can now take a living piece of Exeter Cathedral home with you 🌱

As many of you know, our magnificent horse chestnut tree on Cathedral Green, which is believed to be over 150 years old, is a beloved fixture of our grounds.

Recently, it’s produced a very limited number of seedlings which have been carefully potted up and are now ready for new homes.

These special seedlings are now available to purchase exclusively from the Cathedral Shop for £15.

They’re perfect for gardens of all sizes! 👉 If you’re worried about a huge tree taking over your lawn, don’t be! While their parent tree stands proud and tall on the Green, these horse chestnuts can easily be contained. With proper potting and regular pruning, they can be kept to a manageable size, making them a lovely addition to smaller gardens, patios or as a courtyard feature.

Please note: We have a very limited stock of only 30 seedlings available. They will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, so do pop into the Shop early next week if you would like to secure your own little piece of Cathedral history.

Still thinking about this night ✨🎻

Last week, we were lucky enough to attend ‘A Night at the Opera by Candlelight’ inside Exeter Cathedral and it was the most beautiful experience.

What we loved most was how interactive and theatrical the whole evening felt. Before each performance they shared the story behind the music, which made you feel completely immersed in it all. We also recognised so many more songs than we expected to!

This is such a special way to spend an evening and definitely one of my favourite date nights we’ve ever done.

Did you know… that during the English Civil War bishops and cathedral clergy were abolished and cathedral properties requisitioned.

When Exeter Cathedral’s administration, known as the Chapter, met for the last time on 6 June 1646, they refused to hand over their records to the Parliamentary authorities controlling Exeter.

If this video has inspired your love for history and you’re aged 11-18, don’t miss out on the opportunity to register your interest by 29 May to be named the South West’s Young Historian of the Year. Find out more here: bit.ly/yhoty

Join us in praying over this coming week 🙏

Risen,
ascended Lord,
as we rejoice at your triumph,
fill your Church on earth with
power and compassion,
that all who are estranged
by sin may find forgiveness
and know your peace,
to the glory of God the Father.
