When she's not behind the decks, Solis creates collaged paintings that explore color, texture, and shape through paint, paper, and found images from books and magazines.
Ballet Folklórico de Austin (@ballet.folklorico.austin) is a vibrant community dance organization founded in 2014 by Artistic Director Edgar Yepez-García. The company is dedicated to preserving and celebrating traditional Mexican folk dances and culture, bringing colorful regional dances—especially the festive Guelaguetza from Oaxaca—to the Austin community. The group performs all across the country and internationally. Many of their dancers are intergenerational- parents perform alongside their children, who have grown up dancing. They perform often at the MACC, Republic Square Park, and the Long Center.
Our first opening celebration in 2007! 🎊
A key part of this video is Daniel Llanes, whose legacy and life will continue to live on. Daniel led countless indigenous blessing ceremonies and lent his voice and activism to the MACC community and Austin at large. Remembered and loved by many, we are deeply honored to remember his as an integral figure in the history of the ESB-MACC and our community’s stories. Daniel was born March 5th, 1949 and passed December 4th, 2025.
Then called the “Mexican American Cultural Center”, our first was more than a milestone. It was a celebration of identity, creativity, and the enduring cultural legacy of Austin’s communities. And this year’s opening will be no different. The City of Austin’s Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment department is honored to invite you to visit the renovated Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center on June 6th, 11am-9pm.

Movimiento Ancestral is a grounding and empowering class inspired by Indigenous Mesoamerican traditions that honor the connection between body, breath, spirit, and the natural elements. Through intentional movement and mindful breathing, we explore symbolic postures that honor the four directions — East, South, West, and North — representing new beginnings, inner fire, emotional flow, and grounding wisdom. These Toltec postures invite participants to with their bodies, cultivate balance, and awaken inner strength while experiencing movement as a path to healing, cultural connection, and personal empowerment.
