After a year touring festivals with our short film Al fresco, we’ve reached over 120 selections, more than 20 awards, 6 Oscar-qualifying festivals, 1 BAFTA-qualifying festival, and 14 Goya-qualifying festivals.

Our first featured finalist is β€˜Al Fresco’. Rehearsed and filmed in a single day, and shot in one continuous take by cinematographer @ericoh_csc , this comedy explores Barcelona’s housing crisis. Directed by @ignacio.rodo, and starring @roc_esquius @marcpujol_pro and Alexandra AgullΓ³.

Thanks @laowa.cine for sending me the Proteus 2x Anamorphic Zooms (26-45mm & 46-85mm) to try out on a couple of projects. It’s very much appreciated. Super compact anamorphic zooms with very close focus. Flares are controlled and not distracting. Lenses are a little softer wide open but sharpness greatly improves at T4.

These zooms being parfocal were very useful when I had to do subtle reframing while dollying. Shooting wide-open outdoors in full sun, I did not have any CA or fringing happen.

I had the opportunity to shoot 3 very different projects over the last month and a half with the Nanomorph 1.5x Anamorphic Zooms that @laowa.cine sent me to try out. A somber, dramatic short (Reflejos Rotos), a comedy short (Head Over Heels), and a wrestling piece (Lucha Libre).

I shot all these projects on the @reddigitalcinema Komodo-X and also using the Red Komodo as a b-cam for Lucha libre, where I had each zoom on a camera (Komodo with 28-55 & Komodo-X with 50-100). I found myself predominantly using the 28-55mm on the two short films. This focal range covered us for 95% of our shots.

Both of the zooms are very versatile in terms of their focal range as well as the β€œlook” of them as I was able to use them on projects that varied greatly in terms of genre, and look. I usually shoot narrative work using primes but I really enjoyed using these zooms which really are more like variable primes.

These zooms being parfocal were very useful when I had to do subtle reframing while dollying. I was able to hide zooms that way. Also there were times when I couldn’t use a Dana dolly or slider due to the tightness of the space and used the zoom as a push in.

Shooting wide-open outdoors in full sun, I did not have any CA or fringing happen. Flares are controlled which meant they were not distracting but there were a couple of occasions where I would have liked a touch more character.

In terms of distortion, I would have preferred barrel over pin-cushion but in my β€œreal world” usage it bothered me less than I thought it would. Besides, it’s quite easily corrected in Resolve.

These are a good set of anamorphic zooms that are lightweight, versatile and performed very well. Build quality is solid as per Laowa and the price makes these a very attractive set.#ungradedframegrabs

I was sent a set of @laowa.cine Nanomorph 1.5x Anamorphic zoom lenses (Silver flare) to try out. Thanks @laowa_marcusand @laowa.kevinfor sending me the lenses!

Took the 50-100mm for an impromptu walk around the neighborhood today with my @reddigitalcinema Komodo X and @pdmovie Lidar and non-lidar focus motors to see how β€œrun n’ gun” shooting would be like.

I liked the 50-100mm range very much. Great focal lengths to have at your finger tips. Would be great for docs for sure or any type of shoot where you have limited time/crew. Found the lens to be sharp (shooting at T4) and clean. Flaring is well controlled with no visible CA at T4. Focus breathing is also at a minimal and pincushion distortion is almost nil at 50mm.

I was sent a set of @laowa.cine Nanomorph 1.5x Anamorphic zoom lenses (Silver flare) to try out. Thanks @laowa_marcusand @laowa.kevinfor sending me the lenses!

Took the 50-100mm for an impromptu walk around the neighborhood today with my @reddigitalcinema Komodo X and @pdmovie Lidar and non-lidar focus motors to see how β€œrun n’ gun” shooting would be like.

I liked the 50-100mm range very much. Great focal lengths to have at your finger tips. Would be great for docs for sure or any type of shoot where you have limited time/crew. Found the lens to be sharp (shooting at T4) and clean. Flaring is well controlled with no visible CA at T4. Focus breathing is also at a minimal and pincushion distortion is almost nil at 50mm.
