Pic of the Week: Eric Johnson Bronze Madame, Polyester Resin 43 x 6 x 6 in
Eric Johnson’s Madame X series consists of radiant sculptures made from cast resin. These works reflect Johnson’s deep engagement with the sensual possibilities of sculptural form. Layers of vibrant, abstract color are suspended beneath smooth, polished surfaces, creating a sense of movement as the viewer circulates around their intertwined, helix-like structures.

At last documenting work from the last couple of years. This work is the Taos series. A couple of years ago my running mate and I went to Taos to pay homage to Larry Bell, Ron Cooper, Gary Lloyd and Ronald Davis. When I returned, I made this body of work and much more as a tribute to my experience in Taos. #taos #Newmexico #minimal #minimalartart #concentrate

JUST RELEASED: Oct. 8 on #angelcityculturequest
Eric Johnson: Maker of Minimalist, Sensual, Clean and Sinuous Lines
So pleased to release this episode featuring #ericjohnson and recorded at #TheRanch. Eric was illuminating and provided so much information on his work and his history.
At the time of our recording, Eric Johnson had two fresh exhibits open in the Harbor area of LA. His solo show, “Fade to Black” at solo. Gallery in San Pedro opened August 16; BUT while the exhibit, curated by Ron Linden, officially closed, you can see it by appointment for the next few days!
— And “ex.cerpt”, Eric’s newest show also curated by Linden, at the Palos Verdes Art Center, opened September 13 and runs to November 15.
Don’t miss your chance to experience these two remarkable exhibits live!

Dropping Wednesday, October 8 on #AngelCityCultureQuest:
Artist Eric Johnson, Maker of Minimalist, Sensual, Clean and Sinuous Lines
Eric's work is a remarkable fusion of unconventional elements: automotive tools, techniques, and materials. These form the cornerstone of his unique style as a sculptor. He masterfully blends the structures of wooden architecture with the fluidity of biomorphic forms, resulting in a contrast that captures the essence of life and movement.

Had the privilege of having a private viewing of my friend Eric Johnson @ericjohnsonstudio solo exhibition at @solosanpedro had a great conversation with Peter Scherrer the Artist/Gallerist. The show is a deeply compelling and introspective look at pure form. Deviating from Eric’s use of color combinations in his sculptures the monochromatic pieces pull the viewer into the work. Inviting a deeper contemplation of the pieces both individually and as a collective whole. #contemporaryart #contemporaryminimalism #losangelesartist #minimalism

Fade to Black, new work by Eric Johnson, features the artist’s transition from polychrome sculpture to entirely black pieces.
The color black can symbolize a wide array of concepts, both positive and negative. It often represents power, elegance, formality, and mystery, but can also be associated with death, mourning, and evil. Black can also symbolize strength, resilience, and the unknown.
Louise Nevelson's signature use of black in her sculptures was a deliberate artistic choice, not a simple negation of color. She viewed black as a unifying force, a way to create a sense of totality, peace, and even grandeur in her works. Her monochromatic palettes, often employing black spray paint, transformed disparate found objects into cohesive and mysterious assemblages. For painter Ad Reinhardt, addressing the essential attributes of black was a process of negation, or subtraction, of all extraneous elements, including referential imagery, narrative, emotion, gestural incident and superfluous high color. Johnson is on the same journey.
