“One sip can kill.”

That's the EPA's own warning about paraquat: a weedkiller linked to Parkinson's disease and other serious health harms.

More than 70 countries have already banned it, including China, which manufactures most of the world's supply. So why is it still being applied on American crops?

Vermont just made history!

Lawmakers passed the first-in-the-nation bill to ban paraquat – a toxic herbicide linked to Parkinson’s disease and other serious health harms. If signed into law, it would stop the use of paraquat in the state.

Now the decision goes to Gov. Phil Scott (@philscottvt) – and EWG is urging him to sign the bill.

More than 70 countries have already banned paraquat. And 12 other U.S. states have considered similar action, momentum is building. This is how change happens.

Grateful to our bill sponsors and partners for helping to move this effort forward:
@esmecole.vt, Martinela Rocque Gulick, @vermontpirg, @michaeljfoxorgc, @parkinsonsfoundation, @apdaparkinsonsand others.

The conversations moms are having right now matter more than ever 💚

At the inaugural EWG x @knowyourvalue Earth Day Dinner, @mikabrzezinski sat down with @hilaryswank and @healthybaby.co founder @shazi_visram for an honest conversation on motherhood, safer products and why trust and transparency matters.

HealthyBaby was the first ever EWG Verified® diaper, leading the way on ingredient disclosure, rigorous testing and higher safety standards for families.

From what goes into a diaper to the products we use every day, one thing is clear: parents deserve better.

An EWG analysis of state testing data found PFAS pesticide residues in nearly 40% of non-organic fruits and vegetables grown in California – the state that supplies more than half the nation's produce.

The good news? There's a bill that could change it.

AB 1603, authored by Assemblymember Nick Schultz (@asmnickschultz) and cosponsored by EWG, @ca4pesticidereform, @centerforenvironmentalhealth and @pesticideaction, would phase PFAS pesticides out of California agriculture by 2035 – stopping new approvals and banning all PFAS pesticides, beginning with a ban on 23 pesticides already off the market in Europe.

Fresh produce is a cornerstone of a healthy diet, and you shouldn't have to choose between eating well and avoiding harmful chemicals. In the meantime: wash your produce, choose organic when you can and use EWG’s Shopper's Guide™ to make safer choices at the store.

Tell your California state legislators and Governor Newsom it's time to get PFAS pesticides out of our food for good.

No federal law requires diaper manufacturers to disclose what's in their products, yet the average child wears a diaper for the first two to three years of life, with ingredients sitting directly against their skin around the clock.

AB 1901, authored by Assemblymember Marc Berman (@asmmarcberman) and co-sponsored by EWG, @consumerreports, @centerforenvironmentalhealth and @childrennow, would require full ingredient disclosure on packaging and online, and would make California the first state in the nation to require clear and consumer friendly diaper ingredient transparency.

Because an infant's skin absorbs chemicals more easily than adult skin, and their biological systems are still developing, knowing what's in a diaper isn't just a consumer issue – it's a children's health issue.

AB 1901 is now before the California Assembly Appropriations Committee. Its fate is being decided now.

If you live in California, contact your state legislators and Governor Newsom and urge them to support AB 1901.

What happens when decades of evidence point in the same direction… but action doesn’t follow?

This is the paraquat timeline: what research, regulation and delay have looked like over 40+ years.

Since the 1980s, studies have raised concerns about paraquat’s link to Parkinson’s disease. Over time, that evidence has only grown, including findings from federally funded research and even industry-backed studies.

Meanwhile, 70+ countries have banned paraquat due to its health risks. The U.S. has not.

The pattern is hard to miss: evidence builds, reviews stretch on, action stalls.

When you step back, it raises a pretty simple question: Why are we still waiting to ban paraquat?

Tap the link in bio to see the full timeline.

Most food is processed in some way to make it safer and easier to transport, store, cook and eat – and that’s okay.

But ultra-processed food (UPF) is different. It now makes up a big part of what families eat every day, and research is raising questions about how it may impact our health – especially children.

Ultra-processed food is everywhere, but understanding it can help you make more informed choices at the grocery store.

Together with @environmentalworkinggroup and our Chief Innovation Officer, @hilaryswank , HealthyBaby has advocated for stronger transparency laws because parents deserve to know what’s going into the products they use every single day. Transparency has been part of our mission from the start, from becoming the first-ever EWG VERIFIED® diaper to publicly prioritizing ingredient disclosure, testing, and higher safety standards for families.

Last year, we helped support California’s SB 646, the first U.S. law requiring testing and public disclosure of toxic heavy metals in prenatal supplements. Now, we’re continuing that advocacy alongside EWG with AB 1901, a bill that would require diaper manufacturers to disclose the chemical ingredients in diapers.

We know the mental load parents already carry is heavy enough. Having to decode ingredient lists or question whether the products families rely on are truly safe should not be added on top of that.

If you live in California and care about diaper safety, call your state legislators and the Governor as soon as possible to urge them to support AB 1901 and mandate transparent disclosure of diaper ingredients. And if you want to see legislation like this in your state, tag your representative in the comments ⬇️

EWG research shows that PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals,” are showing up in freshwater fish across the U.S. – sometimes at levels far higher than store-bought options.

These chemicals can build up in our bodies over time, which makes understanding where they come from and how to reduce exposure so important.

For some families and communities, locally caught fish is an important food source – checking local advisories can help reduce exposure.
