We'd like to wish a Happy Birthday to Pete Townshend who turns 81. A true innovator in the world of rock music, not only for his songwriting skills and guitar histrionics, but also in his ability to interweave early electronic music influences seamlessly into The Who with songs like "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again". And it's one of our favorite parts of the tour to demonstrate this Lowrey Berkshire Deluxe organ and the famous "Marimba Repeat" control that is at the heart of "Baba". While we wish this was the exact instrument that Pete used on the recording, we love to share this as a tribute to Pete and to share that sometimes a very specific sound can make a piece of music just as much as the songwriter behind it. A Very Happy Birthday to keyboardist extraordinaire Mr. Rick Wakeman who turns 77 today! We have many pieces of Rick's history with Yes and solo among our collection including the famous Hammond organ used on Roundabout. We also just opened up this lovely Baldwin electric harpsichord and we'll have it on display for our Electric Piano workshop. And we were fortunate to meet up with Rick and his son Oliver back in March at their show at the Colonial Theater where he told us the story of purchasing the Hammond among other funny stories and anecdotes. One of our favorite instruments in the collection is this yellow Simmons kit set up in our drum machine and electronic percussion exhibit as a tribute to Bill and his pioneering use of electronic percussion starting in the 1980s with King Crimson.
And of course we're all huge fans of his work with Yes, Genesis, UK, Earthworks and his fantastic Bruford albums. Bill is out on the road now with the Pete Roth Trio. And his particular feel on the drums is as identifiable and innovative as ever. You must catch him live if you have the chance!

Happy 80th birthday to guitarist Robert Fripp! We're happy to have a piece of Fripp's legacy as part of our collection. You know him as the mastermind behind King Crimson, but he's also done some amazing work with David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, Talking Heads, Blondie, Toyah and more. We often use his famous quote of "Tuning a Mellotron doesn't" when talking about the history of the instrument on our tours. Hope you're enjoying your day Robert! Many happy returns!
