The wind turns twice a year, and for a thousand years it moved whole worlds across the Indian Ocean.
For our second dinner, weβre gathering around that ocean - East Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, South Asia, the Persian Gulf and the people those waters carried here to Longsight.
Come on Tuesday 14th of April for an evening of food, poetry and conversation. Hosted by Elmi Ali, with food from Hadramout, a Yemeni restaurant just off Wilmslow Road, named for the coastline whose sailors travelled those same routes for centuries.
The evening also marks the launch of Words From Where We Live, a community poetry circle meeting here every Friday at Longsight Art Space.
Entry is free, but spaces are limited so if your plans change, please release your ticket on Eventbrite so someone else can join us. Link is in bio^
Come as you are. Dress in blue. π

I'm not a member of the Green Party.
I'm not an activist.
I'm a storyteller β and I know a bad plot twist when I see one.
Our constituency had the lowest voter turnout in the entire UK last election. We are one of the most politically abandoned communities in this country.
And now β eight weeks before a local election β a party committee that does NOT live here wants to remove the one candidate who does. Someone who has lived in Moss Side since childhood. Who spent three years knocking on our doors. Who was hospitalised after a dog attack while campaigning in Baguley β and came back.
In the last general election she got nearly 7,000 votes and a 19% swing. In the constituency with the lowest turnout in Britain. People who don't vote β voted for her.
And the party she gave everything to wants to drop her. Eight weeks before she could actually win.
I've spent a long time telling the stories of this community. And this one doesn't add up.
You don't get to tell Moss Side who represents us.
You don't know us.
