Since recording the song “Finding Bakoena in a Sojo Cloud” last July, which expressed @tebzadiphehlo longing for connection with his maternal ancestors in Lesotho, we started planning a roadtrip from Jozi to Lesotho to explore his roots in search of “Bakoena” (🐊, the spiritual animal of his people). In Late November, after 5 hours on the road and 5 hours at the border, we finally stepped on the land of Lesotho! We were joined by fellow pantsula dancers with Lesotho lineages @nhlanhlashavol and @relekane2 plus our video director @adriano.vannini and embarked on a three day journey full of adventure. In Maseru we were warmly welcomed by local Pantsula dancers, bought Lesotho traditional blankets and the Mokorotlo (the iconic straw hat that adorns the Lesotho flag), explored the dreamy landscape in the rain and sun, and danced in front of the holy mountain Thaba Bosiu that gave the shape of the Mokototlo hat. Adriano captured all of these experiences with an army of different cameras and symphonized them into a Kerouac-ish road trip film. See full video link in bio.
