After about 140 meals and five months spent in every sort of dining room, my first guide to the best new restaurants in the D.C. area is live! I view this list as a reflection of the persistence and optimism driving our food scene forward, and of my own experience as @washingtonpost food critic, getting to know my new home city. Izakaya Seki is the first restaurant that food critic @e_zar has awarded The Washington Post’s highest rating: four stars.

For nearly 14 years, father-daughter duo Hiroshi and Cizuka Seki have operated the compact two-story Japanese restaurant in D.C.’s U Street Corridor with understated precision and unwavering commitment.
