On June 5th we enter a new era on High Street as Elysium becomes Down By Here!

We are super excited by what the future holds for us and can't wait to share our plans with you. For now though we have secured some absolutely stellar acts for our opening party and are thrilled to announce that the amazing @afrocluster and @sunsofthunderband will be gracing our stage (yes, there will be a stage!) as well as @mari_purr, music from DJ Chronic and more TBA.

Tickets are available now via downbyhere.co.uk, including an option to buy a ticket and a tshirt - anyone who arrives on opening night wearing a DBH tshirt stands a chance of winning a year's worth of gig tickets for free!

Get your tickets now and help us get the new era off to a flyer.

Next up for REPEAT — a stacked night of new noise at the newly renamed and freshly rejigged Down By Here (formerly Elysium).

Swan Hill — big-hearted indie with soaring melodies and a quietly bruised edge.

DOGCOLLAR — snarling, hook-loaded punk that hits fast, bites hard and sticks.

Eyesore the Minotaur — chaos and craft colliding; jagged riffs, wild turns and gloriously unhinged energy.

A-Topic — sharp, punchy alternative rock with restless energy, big choruses and the kind of live intensity that turns heads fast.

Cheaper tickets in advance via the link in bio, or £5 on the door.

Proudly supporting Love Music Hate Racism. Make noise. Make change.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 5TH

The incredible @earthball.speaks head to High Street!

“The first EarthBall album I heard took me back in time, its fusion of free jazz sax & NY-style noise placing me nearly 30 years ago in a packed crowd at Camden’s Jazz Café” Stewart Lee

Tickets via www.downbyhere.co.uk

EARTHBALL are a wild ensemble from Canada, mainly based on Vancouver Island. Their inception was serendipitous, emerging out of necessity when Isabel Ford, John Brennan, and Jeremy Van Wyck needed a name for a gig. What began as a pragmatic solution blossomed into an artistically conceived project.

Embracing complete improvisation, free expression and a truly psychedelic sound, the group's lineup expands for different projects and now features Kellan Maclaughlin on Guitar and Liam Murphy on Saxophone. Each member brings a diverse musical background, having been part of various bands such as Shearing Pinx, Plan Your Future, Kamikaze Nurse, Eschatons and Psychedelic Dirt.

Their individual collaborations with artists like Deerhoof, Raven Chacon, Chris Corsano, William Hooker, and others enrich their collective experience, forging a powerful musical force.

EarthBall's live shows epitomise their commitment to spontaneous composition, offering audiences a unique experience at every performance. Notably, their opening act for the legendary experimental duo Wolf Eyes in August 2023 underscores their standing in the psychedelic music scene. As Earth Ball continues to push the boundaries of improvisation and sonic exploration, they remain a guiding light for those seeking a transcendental musical experience.

THURSDAY JUNE 11TH

Webster's Ragtime Trio + Gypsy Jacques 4tet

Tickets: www.downbyhere.co.uk

Webster‘s Ragtime Trio is a central Texas based throwback to a style of music that went largely unrecorded

Webster's Ragtime Trio

Webster‘s Ragtime Trio is a central Texas based throwback to a style of music that went largely unrecorded. Around the turn-of-the-century, it is said that there was lots of string bands, i.e. mandolin, banjo, guitar, bow cello, playing the popular hits of the day including classic ragtime compositions like the Maple leaf rag. Although that type of music was composed for marching bands and solo piano performance, it is hard not to notice how joyful it sounds played on acoustic stringed instruments.

And they don’t stop there, they more than dip their toes into ragged Texas Fiddle tunes from the 78 RPM era, even venturing across the pond to play the occasional archaic Polish mazurka, and/or striking up borderland polka Harkening back to the glory days of Tejas.

Alexander Jones, Will Webster, and Westen Borghesi make up this fine trio.

Gypsy Jacques

Gypsy Jacques are an acoustic swing band based in S. Wales, UK who play 1930s jazz in the style of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli.

JULY 31ST

The mysterious @sumpband headline a stacked, varied bill of local talent!

Tickets available now at www.downbyhere.co.uk

SUMP are one of Swansea's most mysterious bands. Sounding unlike any other local band, when asked for a description we were simply told:

‘Bon Jovi meets Iron Maiden’

Don't be fooled though. Incredible musicianship, soaring vocals and catchy hooks fit around a heavy yet melodic sound which touches on classic rock, psych, stoner and prog while still maintaining its originality. Not to be missed.

Wild Eyed, Wicked And Oblivious are a folk band whose quirky orginality is refreshing.

Folk with a hint of 60's harmonies, African rhythums, ska, a tea chest bass, and electronic wind instrument, 12 and six sting acoustic guitars, mandolin and a great percussion.....Singing tales about nature, the past, peace, love, mysterious things and zulu dreams. They encourage singing along, dancing without light pollution , and a copper-waltz.

Dark And Twisties are a folk outfit hailing from Swansea. They consist of Sarah Birch (vox, percussion), Kate Ronconi (words, vox, strings, banjo), Sarah Passmore (vox, acoustic guitar, banjo), Danny Kilbride (bass guitar, acoustic guitar, mandolin, vox) and Huw Rees (drums and percussion).

“Powerful & evocative... engaging storytelling & emotive harmonies” Folk Honey

“Hypnotising harmonies and transcendent tones” Tempo Magazine

“Dark and Twisties draw on the timeless allure of traditional folk while infusing it with modern ethereal sensibilities” Illustrate Magazine

Reason #13424 to come to grassroot gigs...

In May 2024 we had the pleasure of experiencing the amazing @getdown_services - absolute gents and scholars.

They deserve all the success in the world, but it's still surreal seeing an act who've played our humble venue on Jools Holland!

Support local venues. Take a punt. Buy advance tickets. Be part of the section of society that champions talent, experimentation and expression.
