One another fun sheet metal modification I got to do to the ‘66 Charger involved shaving the factory fuel filler and relocating it to the trunk lid. @dotson_design came up with the idea of using a push-through fuel cap underneath with a ‘68 Charger flipper fuel cap mounted to the trunk lid and wanted me to figure out a way to seal the fuel filler off from the passenger compartment. So I decided to make a flange like the trunk already has but continue it inward and around the fuel filler neck. That meant redesigning the inner structure of the trunk lid so that it would seal with the weatherstripping. Everything above the yellow tape in the video, I made from scratch. I also reused the trunk latch by just moving it closer to the top of the trunk opening and machining a stainless steel pin to simplify it some. Then I made a Pullmax die to hammer out a recess that’s really similar to what the ‘66 Charger trunk emblem mounted to, just larger to fit the later flipper fuel cap. The base of the flipper fuel cap has a slanted base so I had to hammer out a slanted sheet metal mount so the fuel cap would sit flat on the trunk lid. Fun stuff. #CHRA #CustomAndHotRodsOfAndice
