Dotan Appelbaum’s Honey Locust Thorns transforms surface into structure.

Composed of meticulously cut and assembled wood veneers, the table draws from the sharp, rhythmic geometry of its namesake—translating the natural logic of thorns into a precise, constructed language. Each segment is laid with exacting control, building a surface that feels both patterned and alive, where repetition gives way to subtle variation.

At once rigorous and organic, Honey Locust Thorns holds a quiet intensity—where discipline and intuition meet in balance.

Dotan Appelbaum is a furniture designer, artist and writer from Minneapolis, Minnesota, currently based in Richmond, Virginia. He holds an MFA in Furniture Design from the Rhode Island School of Design with further background in painting and fine woodworking. Dotan brings a theory-oriented sociological approach to furniture design. Mining histories of design, as well as contemporary trends and precedents, he seeks to question and undermine how we understandour social relationship to furniture and craft. Dotan’s work mostoften exists as critical reproduction, reinterpreting historicalprecedents to better understand the present.
