❁ Welcoming my sweet friend X҉i҉m҉e҉n҉a҉@dontstartevil to the @radioalhara airwaves for the first episode of 𝐴⃪𝑛⃪𝑡⃪𝑖⃪𝑣⃪𝑒⃪𝑛⃪𝑜⃪𝑚⃪ in 2024 ❁

Ximena is a multitalented creative being from Lima, Peru currently based in Brooklyn, NY, working across various visual mediums and sound. She is the co-founder at @lobbyarteditions (✯◡✯)

Feb 9 5pm NYC/Lima

In her words:

All over the world, people inhabiting territories that have endured the violence of imperialist colonialism understand what is like to rebuild their world, to stand firm in their identity and organize in resistance to the ever-present effects of that violent history.

The colonization of the Americas is considered a pivotal point in the process of imperial expansion, domination, and oppression, however the logics, strategies and stigmas that Europe used to colonize those territories were forged and ingrained in the euro-christian mind long before the xv century, the roots of the vilification of that newly encountered “other” were forged in the way Europe related to the black African and the Arab world, in a frame of thought that would later be known as orientalism.

Latin America has been marked by political instability, institutional violence, coups and continuous economic crises. We understand the struggle of the Palestinian people, our support stems from our similar histories.

That connection is translated today in the way we resist, the way we spot and denounce the same power dynamics of colonizers and imperialists and the havoc they still cause in our world.

These are a selection of songs that rhyme with resistance, with protest, with melancholy… a reflection of a turbulent history and of the will to continue to fight for self-determination, for a dignified life and the respect, peace and joy we deserve.
