While I usually stay behind the scenes and work in my silo, I wanted to step up and speak with a few respected friends on the state of marketing and media.

On April 16 at 11:30 AM, I’ll be joining @ianandreespinet of Breaking Down Racial Barriers / Black Star Graphic Design & Communications and @dwayne_morgan of Up From The Roots at Digital Day Camp DDC Next.

We’ll be talking about the cost of exclusion, why equity is a real growth driver in this digital age, and how the absence of diversity continues to hurt creativity, limit revenue, and leave real money on the table.

As representatives of @idream.ca , we’ll also be speaking on real solutions, practical shifts, and what it actually looks like to move this conversation forward.

The process is never as easy as it looks.

Celebrating the life of Masimba aka DJ Son Of S.O.U.L.50th birthday on the ‘Cool Out’ online party? Log onto twitch.tv/AllVinylEverything this Friday December 11th, from 3-10pm to celebrate Masimba 50th birthday.

The online party will feature all vinyl DJ sets from Mel Boogie, DJ Grouch, CRATERY.COM, Love Handle, DJ Agile, Paul E. Lopes, and as well as airing tributes and stories of how Masimba aka Son Of S.O.U.L. touched us all.

Watching innocent black men like myself being murdered without reason or consequence becomes numbing after awhile.I’ve spent a lot of time inside this numbness, and as a result I’ve let a lot of things slide for the sake of hiding my own feelings. For the sake of hiding my own vulnerability.

Being afraid to share my pain became my form of defense, but after everything that’s happened this past month, its made me realize how damaging this is to myself and to my people. This month alone I’ve personally contacted 40+ people within the music industry who are white and have taken the time to explain Privilege. To explain Pain.
To explain Perception. ⁣
⁣
By having these chats I’ve learned so much about how far we all have to go to address racial issues and how far we have to go in educating people, especially those who get defensive about the benefits so many white people receive from black culture. ⁣

In short, most of these people are ignorant to these facts. ⁣
⁣
Allyship is needed now more than ever, so I am asking my fellow music ambassadors. Take the time to listen, understand and respond. Racism isn’t about “bad“ vs “good”. It is structural and embedded into all aspects of society—this includes laws, dominant cultural norms, and our very own consciousness. So please try to not get defensive and really dig deep to display empathy. ⁣

Lastly I ask that you support PUBLICLY for the world to see, if you utilize our culture in ANY FORM and you don’t protect it, this makes you complicit to the racist machine we are all faced with today. YOU NEED TO DO BETTER!! ⁣
