Honored to share that my work is featured in @sciencemagazine November 2025 issue 🧬🧪 It has been a while since I’ve had a photo published in print, especially in this social-media age where everything lives on small screens and online.
These photos were taken during our first shoot of @kukasaruy , my first personal longer feature documentary project that is very close to my heart 🍃 It portrays a story of remembrance and the safekeeping of tradition, featuring the Q’ero Nation and Don Fortunato—one of the last guardians of the #KukaSaruy legacy, which includes organic cultivation and the ritual harvesting of the coca leaf. Blessings to this community, its people, its ways and their opening as well.
We are currently raising funds to complete the filming of this documentary in March and move into post-production. Any support is deeply appreciated—even just reading and sharing our crowdfunding campaign helps 🔗 (link in bio)
🙏 A big thanks to @cocabotanist for bringing me on board for this collaboration alongside other important voices in the fight for Indigenous rights relating to the coca leaf, such as @wadedavisofficial @davrestrepo @claudeguislain @khokaproject @latinorchidbot , Imika Tarirú, and many other brilliant minds I had the chance to meet during the @mckenna.academy Wisdom of the Leaf Coca Summit earlier this year. Thanks also to @lizzybphotography928 ScienceMag’s Photo Editor
🙏 Last but not least, thank you @larajacoski. Without connecting with her during @aniwa.co, and sharing this purpose of being instruments for Indigenous voices to be expressed, none of this would have happened. I highly recommend checking out her main documentary work, now finally available online after touring the world: @eskawatafilm.
If you’re interested on reading the full article in Spanish or English just share “KUKA” in the comments and I can send you the link.
