Here are some looks behind the lens on the Can-Am Project. @shaunoh had some ambitions ideas for this one, including suspending the Can-Am, shooting the underside and using an LED wall to create the look of driving next to a rider. I got to push the Inspire 3 and Komodo FPV pretty hard on this. The project has really pulled together some talent, from the riders to editors, colour, VFX, custom score and SFX, shaunoh and team really put the work in to make it what it is, Im stoked to have been a part of it.

Introducing CopyCat - The Data Transfer Case -

Been developing this the past 3 years, a solution to those times when you spend all day on the road racking up gigabytes of data and run out of time to get it all backed up.

Taking advantage of the latest NVMe storage, Thunderbolt 3 enclosures/ dock and LiPo battery to keep everything running, this case is able to backup data pretty much anywhere without interruption.

The case has proven super helpful on a number of productions, each time has been a valuable op to improve, but now it’s pretty dialled for what I need.

Considered producing them, potential here to make a more user friendly product. We shall see..

I made a page on my website dedicated to the process and design decisions along the way!

Had the pleasure of working on this @atomicski shoot earlier this year. @patrick___pichler & @thomasvankristen had a few very specific aerial shots in mind for this piece.
It was fun finding the right locations and setting up the drone with post VFX in mind. Love how the low pass to drop reveal came out.
Shooting in the mountains is always challenging, especially with drone equipment, snow and moisture gets everywhere, but also the intense brightness can catch you off guard. One of the slides shows @weazydavis rescuing the Inspire 3 after it went into the snow. I was relying on fpv feed, it was blown out by the sunlight reflection so I couldn’t see where the snow started or ended, got lucky this time with no damage, but it was interesting trying to find where it went down, luckily i had the mavic to go search and capture this clip :).
This was the first time using this eco flow battery bank on set. It allowed me to keep the drone batts charging all day out there, much nicer than bringing a generator.
Oh and it turns out using the helis prop wash to make a snow storm is very effective!

I put a thermal camera on a gimbal and went snowboarding. Here are the results!

Something mesmerizing about thermal imaging that I cant get enough of.

Also took the drone for a spin to capture some mountain magic.

Slide 6 shows the same frame of the T bar engine room working. Engine and exhaust pipe glowing hot!

The NorthFace - The Beginning

Stoked to have had a part capturing aerials for this project. For one segment, we spent a few days up in an alpine cabin on the Tantalus range in BC Canada. Blessed with some beautiful light.

Primarily shot things on the Inspire 3 - having the flight time and range plus dual operator allowed for some dynamic mountain captures.

Scroll through some of my favourite aerial clips and BTS moments.

The full film is now public - go search for it :)

Putting the Copy Cat transfer case through its paces on this Garmin project earlier this year.

Peak moment was hiking the case up a mountain. This was also a prime opportunity to run it off this small Ecoflow battery system. A very nice pairing, light bars to match!

This project was a perfect use case for the “transfer anywhere” idea I had when developing it 💼

Working with a great crew, it’s such a honour to be trusted with managing all this premium footage!

Had fun capturing the aerials for this Ford F150 commercial. Full speed on the inspire 3.
Slide 3 shows my pilot view vs captured shot. Took us a couple of passes to get the timing right. @lukasfilms on the gimbal. Stoked how it came out!
We were blessed with a fresh dusting of snow the night before which made everything look extra wintery, challenging working in -35c

Slide 3 shows my pilot view vs captured shot. Took us a couple of passes to get the timing right. @lukasfilms on the gimbal. Stoked how it came out!
We were blessed with a fresh dusting of snow the night before which made everything look extra wintery, challenging working in -35c

Shambhala Music Festival is something else, held on a beautiful piece of land in the middle of nowhere, it feels like stepping into another world. It’s an adult playground.

This was my 5th year shooting aerials with @sweetgrassp for the official @shambhala_mf after movie and daily edits (first slide is clips from the dailies). Every year we tweak production finding new efficiencies and ways of capturing this place.

On the drone side of things there is a lot of planning that goes into this. This year I made use of the sub 250g rigs to capture some new interesting angles. Inspire 3 for the lower light site overview shots. Myself and security are the only ones to have air clearance, we have to stay in constant communication to avoid collisions and rogue drones, this is where co-pilot @dono.bean shines, making sure everything runs smoothly.

It’s such a huge privilege and honour to get to capture this magical place from the air. The team behind the films is a collection of wonderful people. We all go full throttle for the week. Exhausting but so rewarding. This year was extra special because there were new and old homies joining us in the fun.

These bts shots captured by myself and @kat.kunze

Today marks 4 years since we wrapped this wild project up in the Yukon. Still to date its one of the most ambitious things Ive been a apart of. Ive been meaning to post about ever since! Better late than never 😬 Strap in this is gonna be a biggie…

Directed by @shaunoh and collaborated with @gunadesigns they wanted to bring to life the idea of stepping out one of her Tlingit Formline pieces of art in snow, on a frozen lake, on a massive scale. Telling the traditional story of Raven (Yéil).

Idea sounded great! But how were we going to pull it off? First was finding the location. Three days of driving hundreds of kms and searching google maps we landed on this spot, Marsh Lake Island. Its was a 2km journey by foot and snowmobile from the highway.

Next big question was how do we map out the artwork on the snow. We spent a week testing some theories on a smaller scale. We used a DJI Mavic 2 with a decent flight time to hover at a set hight. Camera pointing directly down. On my end I had an acetate sheet over my controller monitor with a section of the piece overlaid. This allowed me to line up the drone position between battery reloads. We then took my feed and ran it through high range video transmission. This sent the live image of the drone to who ever was stepping out on the snow. For the snowshoer we built a custom backpack and antenna mount of the video receiver. They held a monitor with the same image overlay I had on my screen. They could see themselves as a tiny pixel on their own screen. This gave them a reference of where they needed to walk! We only had one shot at this and short days to get it done. There could be no mistakes.

Once we had miraculously finished the piece, the weather closed in and we weren’t able to get the final shot of it in good light. That evening and next morning there was a wind storm. We went out the next day, expecting the piece to be gone, filled in by the wind. We were amazed to see that the island had created a wind block, right where the piece was. It really felt like we had luck on our side throughout 🙏

Some Stats
- Diameter 300ft (92m)
- Area 1.62 acres
- Roughly 15k steps
- 11h build time
- 60+ drone flights

They could see themselves as a tiny pixel on their own screen. This gave them a reference of where they needed to walk! We only had one shot at this and short days to get it done. There could be no mistakes.

Once we had miraculously finished the piece, the weather closed in and we weren’t able to get the final shot of it in good light. That evening and next morning there was a wind storm. We went out the next day, expecting the piece to be gone, filled in by the wind. We were amazed to see that the island had created a wind block, right where the piece was. It really felt like we had luck on our side throughout 🙏
