Let the material lead, meaning will follow

Visual artist @gayanehdecoster takes us through the exhibition Antennae by Valérie Mannaerts at @m.leuven. The exhibition brings together works rooted in material intuition, ceramics, textiles, and sculptural forms that resist fixed meaning. In her work, Gayaneh uses flexible materials like wax, latex, and nylon stockings, always letting the material lead rather than working toward a predetermined result. In this sense Mannaerts’ process-driven approach deeply resonates with her own practice.

‘When you allow the material to lead, you leave space for multiple interpretations, rather than imposing a single meaning’ Gayaneh tells us, ‘In the end, you’re drawn to the materials that speak to you and somehow, you simply have to embrace that’

It's like looking at a fragment of an engine room ⚙️

@lukavanderputten takes us through the preparation of her exhibition @zebrastraat and her process of creating her art. In Luka's work, space is created through a combination of objects, reflections, overlaps, and multifocal perspectives. The fast brush strokes and overlaps give a sense of movement. As part of her process she collects discarded industrial objects and sets them up using mirrors and different kind of arrangements. These setups function as the basis of her work and help her shape different kinds of spaces in the paintings.

Through the SHOWCASE#ART initiative, @zebrastraat offers visual artists a platform to showcase their work to a wide audience, without any commercial objectives.

@vers_vuur festival brings word art in all its forms to the stage and brings literature to life in a broad, contemporary and inclusive context. @_sarahdekoning tells us about herself, her work and what she has planned for Vers Vuur. Here she will do a literary double date with Aska Hayakawa. Sarah's work often walks a fine line between intimacy and breaking through that intimacy. What happens to that vulnerability when it’s brought onto a stage will be an unforgettable experience for both her and the viewer.

Going beyond the physical 👁

Documentary artist @justinecappelle takes us through the exhibition Burning the Days in @wiels_brussels. This exhibition shows the works of the genre-defying conceptual artist Lutz Bacher. Justine is currently working on her first feature documentary about invisible technology. In similar spirit Bacher's work also often involves the unspoken, the invisible, and the question of authenticity.

"A place where different artists can share their visions" 🌌

@josephine_sz is a dancer, maker, and performer from the south of France. During Nightwatch at @fomuantwerp, she will be presenting her project 'Danse pour deux corps', a duet with Maryse, a 94-year-old woman. The performance poses questions on the freedom of bodies and their subsequent perceptions and expectations related to age. For her, the interdisciplinarity of Nightwatch is one of the most important aspects. It is not just a space for learning but a collaboration in which many different emerging artists can share their vision with each other.

Nightwatch is a coaching trajectory, talent showcase, and museum takeover for, by, and of young talent.
