I've been working on some landscapes oil paintings recently. Having this colorful landscape pop up after all my earthy minimalist mixed media pieces might give you whiplash, sorry! But sometimes a thing needs to be made. Or several things. Or all the things! Basically the world is crazy and enraging and I really needed to just fall into my love for this beautiful alive land. 🌿

I took a woodcarving class maybe a year or two ago and I finally made a piece with some of my handcarving. It's pretty simple with crescent moons, but it was fun to create an encaustic mixed media piece with it. "Beacon of Hope", encaustic mixed media on hand carved wood, 7x5 inches. May daily collages so far. Several years ago (2017)I did 100 days of birds in gouache. Most of those paintings are gone, but I have a few left. I started with the American Robin and can't stop! Since 5/2 I've been cutting the birds out and using them and their backgrounds for the daily collages. So fun that I'm actually ahead4 days. 😄 #ilovebirds #dailyartpractice

Just packed up this piece and two others to send them on their way to @higherartgallery in Traverse City, MI. April! I almost stopped in the middle of the month. Well, actually, I did. Since Dec 26, I've made a collage a day, until the middle of April.it was around the 100 mark. But I caught up these past few days. Not sure if I'll continue. There are some new constraints on my time. We shall see. No pressure. It's a journey.

Last night's opening at @fleckenstein_gallery was really nice and one of my pieces will be going to a new home! 💗 While I didn't take too many photos, I did have some really wonderful and, honestly, impactful conversations. It's interesting how one can get into some profound conversations with people you don't know because art is the starting point of the conversation. Art has the ability to lead us into deeper places. Doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it's pretty wonderful.

Opening reception at Fleckenstein Gallery in Hampden this evening for "Reclaimed and Renamed", a show of art using upcycled materials. The reception is from 5-8 today, 4.25.26.
I have two of my recent pieces using salvaged wood from pallets that were destined for a landfill in this show. I'm so happy that I could reclaim them and remake them into something else. I also have three panels from my Walking This Earth series. The work I've seen from the other artists are so creative and imaginative and fun! The show will be up for a few months, but if you can, stop by this evening!
