Sports Car Era has entered its final lap. The album came out in the winter of 2025, but it was completed 8 months prior - which means that I've had 2 full years to distance myself from this terrible time in my life. Without spoiling too much, I'll just say that my mental health has improved a lot in the past while, and I am so excited to move things forward and clean the slate for a new chapter.
So much of my last record was about anxiety, and desperately trying to hold on to something that was slipping through my fingers. A lot of new material that I've been writing this year is centered around inspiration, youthful ambition, and the beauty of starting over again after hitting rock bottom.
On Wednesday, June 3, I will be releasing a new single with an accompanying (animated!) video. Tour starts the day after, and then the single release party is on Saturday June 6 at @astoriapub.yvr . The single is a stepping stone thematically towards the (still-incomplete) next album. Stay tuned, I'll tell you more soon.

We’ve been quietly operating in Vancouver since November and it’s been so nice. We sort of hit the ground running and have been operating in chaos mode (in a good way). The support from our partner venues and all of you has been unreal.
Now we’re taking a big moment to celebrate with a Vancouver launch party! Three real-deal bands/artists and the lineup of your dreams: Devours, Semi, Cistern. May 29th at Green Auto. Please bring your dancing shoes.
Tickets available at the Eventbrite link. Haha jk they’re on gigpit.ca — link in bio. See you there!💜

A reintroduction, for newcomers:
My name is Devours, I'm comfortable with all pronouns, and I am a multi-disciplinary underground pop musician based in Vancouver.
I have released 5 full-length albums: Late Bloomer (2016), Iconoclast (2019), Escape from Planet Devours (2021), Homecoming Queen (2023), and Sports Car Era (2025). Despite all of the music and content being extremely personal, Devours is ultimately a character - an ageless, genderless, shapeshifting gaylien, whose image changes for every album cycle, and who calls their fans Urthlings. My first 3 albums were a trilogy, and my most recent 2 albums make up a new, still-incomplete trilogy.
I was an early adopter of hyperpop, but have since transitioned into a hybrid of darkwave, electroclash, and pure radio synth pop. Thematically and lyrically, I write confessional and sometimes confrontational music about body image, gay politics, inner-city queer existence, anxiety, masculinity, nostalgia, love, and loss.
I am mainly a solo performer, although when the mood is right, my friend Dave Prowse joins me on drums and my friend Joey Chaos puts on a light show for us. I believe in community, creative ambition, DIY culture, and pushing the needle forward for queer art in Canada.
My influences include Missy Elliott, Deftones, the Smashing Pumpkins, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Trent Reznor, Enya, and Britney Spears. Some of my contemporary faves are Hotline TNT, Nourished by Time, Alvvays, Cameron Winter, MSPaint, Knocked Loose, and Underscores.
I have a solo side project called the Golden Age of Wrestling, as well as a vanity label called surviving the game.
Life has been really busy behind the scenes this past while, but I am alive and well. The next few months are going to be pretty wild, actually - I have a lot to share with you. My vinyl is gone, and while I'm still in my Sports Car Era cycle, my shows as of late have been testing grounds for top secret new material.
Stay tuned for more 🔮

10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY POST ☆ Urthlings....we made it. Despite inventing the 'Devours' moniker in 2011, and writing/recording Late Bloomer (my first album) in 2014, it took until winter of 2016 to break into the local music scene, release it, and play my first show. It was at the China Cloud 🥲
In the past 10 years, I have experienced the following:
Released 5 albums, went completely bald, put a lot of makeup on my head, met thousands of local musicians and scenesters, played over 500 local shows, toured, caught some early buzz, thought that I was maybe going to make it big, realized in 2019 that I wasn't going to make it big (but kept Devours alive anyways), signed with a label, left the label, started my own label to release my albums, had a global pandemic derail my career, launched a side project and released 4 albums for it, experienced several nervous breakdowns, went on mental health medication, became one of the only fully DIY Canadian artists to ever be nominated for the @polarismusicprize , morphed into an occasional two-piece with a local legend (@ds_prowse ), and witnessed almost everyone whom I befriended in the scene 10 years ago either quit music, quit going to shows, start a family, or find a bigger audience than me. It's been difficult, humbling, beautiful, and completely transformative.
I'm so, so grateful for everyone who has supported me over the past decade. I'm a lifer, and I'm going to be making music in my care home when I'm 70, but the only reason I'm still releasing music publicly is because you're supporting me...so thank you. *Special shoutout to @ironshoreline , who was the first person to truly take a chance on this project. I love you Adam.
I have big plans on the horizon for Devours, so I don't want to spend much time on nostalgia, but I have decided to make my show at @greenautomusic (Thurs Mar 12 w/ @jane_inc_ and @yawn__music ) a 10 year anniversary show.
See you there.

VANCOUVER — official venue change for our March 12 show to @greenautomusic ! advance tix available now, can’t wait to see you again 👁️🫦👁️

IT'S ALIIIIVE! My new single just premiered 🍿
I was born to make ketsbetch. This song is pure Devours - obscure CanCon references, bizarre Vancouver references, odes to pop culture, childhood crushes (*cough* @billwelychka *cough), and more. It's also a subtle jab at Canadians who are so obsessed with American news and media that they overlook their own artists.
Last but not least, this song is about the beauty of friendship. I'm grateful for everyone on here who supports me, but even more grateful for the chosen few who knew me before Devours, who keep me grounded, and who are still rooting for me. You know who you are, and I love you.

@devours.ufo is one of one: a homegrown legend who has pulled himself up fully by his own (leather) bootstraps; a genre-bending auteur who writes, performs, records, produces, mixes, and promotes his own material; a tireless advocate of the Vancouver music scene who always celebrates and never apologies for its many, er…idiosyncrasies; an icon of our city’s Queer artists’ community.
It’s easy to take all this for granted–it’s true that Devours performs around Vancouver a fair amount, at everything ranging from a mural festival kickoff to opening for big touring acts to headlining little festivals like ours–but Jeff is such a prolific writer and performer, you’re unlikely to ever see the same set twice. Not only that, he puts himself into each outing in a way that feels wholly of the moment, a consummate performer who never takes a night off.
All that being said, we’ve heard tell that this will not be any regular Devours show. 🤫 Let’s just say the street lights around Russian Hall might go a little dimmer for an hour or so. 💡 We can’t think of a better killer to close out round 2 of the fest. Join us Saturday, January 17—single day and full fest passes still available!
