The gallery exhibition is an extension of Dhunsi’s recently presented solo exhibition at Nitja Centre for Contemporary Art in Lillestrøm, Norway.As a foundation for the exhibition lays his recently published photobook Mixed (2026), published by SPBH Editions / Mack Books. The project was awarded the 2024 Nordic Photobook Award, and British Journal of Photography (@bjp1854) has selected his work for the 2026 Ones to Watch, their annual selection of emerging photographers.
Exploring the intersection of language and identity, Dhunsi’s exhibition stems from the question: what happens when language fails to name lived experience? Starting from a reflection on the absence of a word in Norwegian to describe “mixed” without reproducing ideas of race, Dhunsi here approaches identity as a shifting, porous process, in contrast to the idea of a fixed category. Fluidity holds in different aspects a crucial part in Dhunsi’s work - both in his visual language, the materials used and the subjects his lens-based practice depicts. Blurred, colour-inverted or partially concealed the subjects in his photographs are never fully revealed to the viewer, instead they enter a place where metaphor, symbols and mythology intertwines.

The publication by Konior explores secrecy, survival, and the shifting conditions of intelligence within contemporary digital life. The cover image is taken from my ongoing project Mixed (@selfpublishbehappy / @mack_publishing , 2026).
I’m especially interested in how this collaboration reflects the ways Mixed continues to manifest across different contexts and disciplines. The work was never intended to exist only within photography or exhibition-making, but as a visual language capable of moving through theory, publishing, installation, and cultural discourse while still carrying its core questions around identity, opacity, hybridity, and transformation.

”Photography seduced me through its authority. It presents itself as evidence—something that has been there, something you can trust. But very early on, I became interested in the instability beneath that surface.
Photography always arrives too late. It captures something that has already shifted, already disappeared. That delay opens a space where fiction—both fortunately and unfortunately—can enter. A kind of magic, or something ghostly.
So, while I began with photography as a way of holding onto something, I stayed because it allowed me to question what is being held, and for whom. Over time, the image stopped being an endpoint and became a starting point—something I could extend into textiles, sound, and spatial constructions.”

@devdhunsi is a multimedia artist working at the intersection of photography, textiles, and installation. Through water, movement, and layered visual languages, his work reflects on identity, belonging, migration, and social (in)justice.
His new publication 'Mixed' (@selfpublishbehappy / @mack_publishing, 2026), released following the Nordic Photobook Award, is a vivid and inquisitive exploration of mixed heritage and the search for language where words are missing. In Norway, where no equivalent term for “mixed” exists, Dhunsi turns to photography and text to articulate experiences of race, gender, desire, and belonging. Combining images, archival fragments, and writing, 'Mixed' unfolds as a hybrid space where tenderness and defiance, intimacy and displacement coexist.
The book also forms the basis of his solo exhibition 'Unmistakably You', currently on view at @nitja_senter_for_samtidskunst Norway, until 26 April and at @andrehnschiptjenko Gallery in Stockholm until 16 May 2026.

ON VIEW IN STOCKHOLM: Dev Dhunsi, Unmistakably You

Andréhn-Schiptjenko is pleased to present Dev Dhunsi’s first solo exhibition with the gallery, Unmistakably You. The gallery exhibition is an extension of Dhunsi’s concurrently presented solo exhibition, bearing the same title, at Nitja Centre for Contemporary Art in Lillestrøm, Norway. As a foundation for the exhibition lays his recently published photobook Mixed (2026), published by SPBH Editions / Mack Books. The project was awarded the 2024 Nordic Photobook Award.
Exploring the intersection of language and identity, Dhunsi’s exhibition stems from the question: what happens when language fails to name lived experience? Starting from a reflection on the absence of a word in Norwegian to describe “mixed” without reproducing ideas of race, Dhunsi here approaches identity as a shifting, porous process, in contrast to the idea of a fixed category. Fluidity holds in different aspects a crucial part in Dhunsi’s work - both in his visual language, the materials used and the subjects his lens-based practice depicts. Blurred, colour-inverted or partially concealed the subjects in his photographs are never fully revealed to the viewer, instead they enter a place where metaphor, symbols and mythology intertwines.
Dev Dhunsi (b. 1996) is a Norwegian–Indian artist living and working between Oslo and Punjab. He holds an MFA from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm (2024) and a BFA from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts.
