For many Balance Series fans, Balance 008 might be the one, the collection’s crown jewel.
A cosmic ride through proto-electro house, nu-wave and disco, it is one of the most mischievous in the series’ history.
Desyn Masiello has always had a truffle-hunter instinct for uncovering rare house gems, but here he delivered a two-disc affair that at the time stumped even the most seasoned crate digger.
By 2005, Balance was already seven editions deep, with Chris Fortier’s sprawling three-disc electro-tech opus proving the series had no interest in strict genre boundaries. Following Fortier’s effort meant raising the stakes… no easy task.
But for Masiello raising the stakes is a moot exercise if you can just change the game. Reorienting the series with a timeless house vision, he injected it with a new sense of musical adventure.
Dig through old YouTube footage and you’ll find grainy pre-iPhone clips of him dropping obscure, wild selections from who-knows-where.
This two-disc odyssey is testament to those skills which still dazzles with obscure selections and fantastic mixing.
Moments drift in with sugary sweetness before transforming into pure, unfiltered dancefloor joy: the kind of euphoric, slightly reckless energy we all indulge in at family weddings.
But even in those more playful moments, it feels like he’s pulling from a crate frozen in time, selections that sidestep eras in favour of frequencies that transcend them. Much of it sounds like it could’ve been compiled in the 70s, 80s, 90s, or 00s.
These are tracks that keep trending toward the present, they might just sound current all the time - forever.

𝔽𝕦𝕝𝕝 𝕃𝕚𝕟𝕖-𝕌𝕡 / 𝕍𝕖𝕟𝕦𝕖 𝔸𝕡𝕣𝕚𝕝 𝔹𝕠𝕟𝕒𝕟𝕫𝕒 / 𝔸𝕗𝕥𝕖𝕣 ℙ𝕒𝕣𝕥𝕪 𝕍𝕖𝕟𝕦𝕖 𝕀𝕟𝕗𝕠 - With just over six weeks to go, we can now reveal the full line-up and venue details for this year’s April Bonanza, taking place across the weekend of 25/26th 🎈
This year we’re switching things up from the usual FOLD → Starlane combination. We begin at FOLD from 11PM on Saturday night, before moving to Number 90 in Hackney Wick from 10AM Sunday morning.
AOD will take control of Live whilst The Goose will make the journey down the canal from N17 to E9, mooring at the N90 terrace to host the Dhutt room for the after.
Jade Seatle will also join us for the Sunday after session with a rare UK Garage set in the Dhutt room on The Goose. Also in that same room, we welcome a special B2B between Matt ‘Jam’ Lamont (Tuff Jam) and Jeremy Sylvester of Nice ’N’ Ripe — two long-standing figures in UK Garage going head-to-head for 3hrs.
Completing the Dhutt line-up is another B2B as Rinse FM’s Riz La Teef links up with Tho (Spaced) for a mid-morning session on 26.04.
Tickets are now well into Final Release for FOLD, while the afterparty is currently on 3rd Release.
Nothing But Love, AOD 🖤 x

27 consecutive years attending WMC miami (except that lockdown one when i couldnt fly) ive seen WMC go from the special early decade(s) when it was truly a worldwide community gathering of every producer, dj, promoter, record label owner, music lover etc etc from all around world - you would catch your favourite dj back then playing multiple times on a roof top, hotel lobby or club. it was about sharing your music to as many different people and places, showcasing for djs, producers, labels, back then no “greedy” ultra big events that were keeping all the biggest djs exclusive. now i see greed and commericalism have taken over and stolen the spirit of wmc, the community aspect as a whole has been diminished drastically. whats left? well my spirit remains and for those that still seek the real community spirt, it never died and im fighting to keep it alive. keep your eyes peeled for further artist announcements ☀️. @magneticgrooves @areulisted @un_mute @sarahtonin.305 @electronicgroove @thepickleofc @faciendo_tix: https://ra.co/events/2387200

𝔸𝕡𝕣𝕚𝕝 𝔹𝕠𝕟𝕒𝕟𝕫𝕒 / 𝔸𝕗𝕥𝕖𝕣 ℙ𝕒𝕣𝕥𝕪 / 𝕊𝕦𝕟𝕕𝕒𝕪 𝟚𝟞𝕥𝕙 𝔸𝕡𝕣𝕚𝕝 - Brighton-based Desyn returns to AOD for our April Bonanza — going straight through after FOLD on Sunday 26th April 2026 in E9 from 10AM-9PM 🎈
2 rooms of music + outdoor chill space.
A teenager when the late 80s / early 90s UK rave explosion hit, Desyn absorbed the birth of a movement he still dedicates himself to today. A vinyl junkie from day one, his obsession with crafting truly unique DJ sets pushed him into a full-time career in the 2000s — sparked by one mix CD he sent out in 1999 that caught global attention.
Since then he’s played 100s of clubs and festivals worldwide — from AgeHa and Womb in Japan, to Pacha Buenos Aires, right through to Glastonbury Festival.
Career highlights include a front cover of DJ Magazine (Jan 2010, with SOS), 5+ mix CD compilations on Balance, Ministry of Sound, Bedrock Records and Yoshitoshi Recordings, plus three appearances in the DJ Mag Top 100 (2005–2007).
Introduced by John Digweed on his Kiss 100 show as “the man that never sleeps” — a nod to the relentless work ethic behind the sound. Still digging records worldwide, still evolving, still pushing.
While Jane Fitz B2B Paquita Gordon lead the charge in the FOLD Main Room the night before, Des’ joins Jorge Escribano, Ethan + a guest TBA in the AOD room of the after - Dhutt room w/ Matt Jam Lamont B2B guest TBA + more.
Final a release, link in bio 🖤

His tireless work ethic continues today, striving to develop and deepen his sound, dividing his working time between searching for records around the world and studio productions.
With him, warming up the atmosphere, the regulars @oscarsilvente & @quimclausell 🔊
It will be an epic night.
