Azimuth, by Designs of the Time, marks the space between where we stand and what we look toward – inviting us to shape our own direction through the materials that surround us.

Each fabric tells a story, carries emotion. Texture, weight, and tactility reveal character, showing the nature of traditional materials. Subtle irregularities arise from authentic craftsmanship – signatures of the maker’s patient hand.

Colours guide us from earth to horizon: desert sand, clay whites, saffron and spiced ochre, graduating towards burgundy and olive. Rust and indigo rest alongside earth and dark brown – rich, grounding shades that shift with light and deepen with age.

In the Azimuth collection, materials reveal their stories through the language of the senses.

MANDUKA // RHYTMIC PATCHWORK
With its rhythmic patchwork of irregular blocks, Manduka creates a landscape of texture and tone. This linen and wool blend combines various semi-artisanally spun yarns, woven into irregular blocks and textures that create relief and depth across the surface. Available in four colour combinations, varying from white-on-white for pure texture to harmonious blends of ancient tones. Manduka celebrates both geometric order and handmade variation.

BAGODAL // HIMALAYAN HAMLET
Named after a Himalayan hamlet where spiritual traditions meet artisanal heritage and raw nature. This yarn-dyed striped pattern, a blend of silk, cotton, and linen, alternates between more densely woven and delicately open zones. Available in two tones, the subtle stripes arise from the interplay of different fibres, each with its own lustre and texture. The slight openness between yarns enhances the fabric’s breathable, tactile quality.

TAR // Protective substance that shields and seals
Named after the thick, protective substance that shields and seals, Tar conceals its technical capabilities behind an authentic, natural appearance. Solution-dyed acrylic creates a robust weave with natural texture and subtle two-toned effects, bringing surprising warmth to a technical material. Water-repellent and fire-retardant, suitable for outdoor and high-performance indoor applications.

TARANGA // SANSKRIT FOR WAVE
Taranga takes its name from the Sanskrit word for ‘wave’, evoking movement and natural rhythm. Gentle horizontal and vertical motions inch across the surface, forming a textured stripe pattern. Woven from a blend of linen and jute, it carries the authentic, slightly coarse character of traditional hand-weaving. The distinctive binding technique creates a fabric that feels as sculptural as it does tactile. This wide-width is available in two natural colourways.

Come and visit us during Milan Design Week 2026

The Azimuth experience gains extra depth through the historical layering of the elegant 19th-century palazzo in the heart of Milan. In this setting, the collection unfolds as a spatial installation, softly anchored in the architecture. Textures, light, and rhythm engage in a subtle dialogue with the space. For this occasion, Designs of the Time invited Belgian designer Nathalie Van der Massen. Drawing on her strong sense of space and material, she drew inspiration from the tactility of the collection and the layered structure of traditional desert architecture. Using the fabrics, she created a series of unique room dividers “the Azimuth Screens” in which protection and intimacy touch upon one another.
