Les mêmes yeux que toi de Derek Branscombe

La chorégraphe Anne Plamondon réfléchit à la relation complexe qu’elle entretenait avec son père décédé, atteint de schizophrénie. Mêlant autobiographie, fiction et danse, le film retrace son retour dans l’appartement de ce dernier, quelques mois après sa mort.

Ce qui commence comme une visite banale pour récupérer quelques objets se transforme en une expérience beaucoup plus profonde : dès qu’elle franchit le seuil, des souvenirs douloureux et une certaine violence envahissent ses pensées. Sa curiosité la pousse à laisser entrer l’obscurité, à affronter pour la première fois les fantômes qui hantaient son père.

Choreographer Anne Plamondon reflects on the complex relationship she shared with her late father, who lived with schizophrenia. Blending autobiography, fiction, and dance, the film traces her return to his apartment several months after his death.

What begins as a mundane visit to retrieve a few belongings turns into a much deeper experience: crossing the threshold, painful memories and a sense of violence flood her thoughts. Drawn by curiosity, she allows the darkness in, confronting for the first time the ghosts that haunted her father.

It feels surreal to introduce a very special project - Les mêmes yeux que toi - a short dance film that we’ve been working on for the last two years.

Born from the choreographic work of Anne Plamondon, the film explores the complicated relationship between unresolved grief, and the desire to liberate oneself from the past. To work with Anne on such a personal and cathartic piece was both humbling and inspiring.

Christophe Collette was part of the core of this project, not only introducing Anne and I, but also bringing an incredible sensitivity and generosity through his work on the images. Thank you to him and countless other collaborators. While some exciting news regarding the film will come soon, it’s our pleasure to finally share some stills from the project. As a director, I’m always looking for new ways to tell stories and treat the medium; when I first heard Milk & Bone’s ‘The Abyss’ (which is part of the soundtrack for the video game Lost Records: Bloom and Rage), I jumped at the chance to play with the format and craft something that would honour the cinematic and foreboding tone of the soundtrack. I wrote a concept that plays with the themes of the game and leans into its aesthetic, while trying to create a world unto itself - a narrative scene that feels part of a larger whole, yet stands alone as a music video.
