Pressure. How the ocean can heal.

This short film is about my relationship & connection with the ocean and what freediving means to me. Filmed this in Bali, at night out on the ocean (sometimes in 7 knots of current) ripping up five anchors with a crew that did not take one single break for seven full hours 🙌

Orphaned as a child, Elena’s only toy was a bag of rocks she practiced hauling up a hill.
Now she’s planning to “put a skirt on the roof of the world” as her and her friends aim to climb Everest in their traditional clothes as a way to raise the profile of indigenous women.

I took up freediving because when I first tried it I couldn’t do it… and that frustration kept me chipping away.

Fast forward to being in a cave in remote Philippines that is famous for claiming several scuba divers’ lives and for never being explored by any freedivers, along with the American national champion who even after decades of the sport said it was a stand out life experience.

It was both more beautiful and more frightening than I can explain.

I’m in Indonesia now preparing to direct a project with the deepest and most prolific freediver in the history of the sport. Every time I hold my breath I still feel frustrated, fascinated and keen to chip away more.

I invested in a pair of Italian carbon fins only to fall in love with the purity of CNF (constant weight no fins).

Barracuda Lake, Phillipines is a stand out experience for any water-lover: a fresh water lake for the first ten meters and then down to 40 meters at the bottom, a sea water thermocline of up to 40C.
