All music composed and performed by Lia Kohl
Field recordings by Lia Kohl, Macie Stewart (4), Patrick Shiroishi (5), Colin Held (7), Corey Smith, Ellie Mejía, and Anna Fox (8), Jesse Perlstein (10), claire rousay (11), and Steve Rosborough (13)

The structure of the album—16 one-minute tracks—directly mirrors Ruscha’s book, which comprises 15 photographs of fire and one of a glass of milk. Ruscha’s “small fires” are represented here by recordings of whistles—mostly human whistling, with occasional appearances by train whistles, emergency whistles, and a woman selling penny whistles on the street in Guangzhou, China. About this choice of material, Kohl writes: “I’ve always been captivated by whistling—it’s musical but often a bit unconscious; usually solo but often done in public places. There’s something tender and human about hearing someone whistle, a socially acceptable version of hearing their mind wander.” As with Ruscha’s photographs, the whistles are not random snapshots but windows into social situations, narratives, or spaces.
The “milk” of the title — the 16th photograph in Ruscha’s book — is interpreted here as a single recording: a group of people singing together in Barcelona around 6 a.m. on New Year’s morning, captured through the floor of an Airbnb. Kohl describes this as a social, collective sound that contrasts with the solitary nature of whistling. The song functions as a counterbalance—a quiet celebration of shared experience.

Various Small Whistles and a Song
by Lia Kohl
Out on November 14 on 10” vinyl and digital through Dauw
As the title suggests, the album responds to Ed Ruscha’s 1964 photographic artist book Various Small Fires and Milk, which Kohl sees as a wondrous celebration of ordinariness, one that reveals Ruscha’s trademark deadpan humor and depth. In the spirit of that publication, Kohl created her own series of sonic vignettes: a collection of 16 micro-songs where whistles are layered with synthesizers, cello, drum loops, and toy instruments.
A three-track suite, one of which features claire rousay, is now available to listen alongside a pre-order – link in bio

‘morning music’ by the humble bee is out now! One of the albums that marked a milestone in our own collection so really happy to finally make it available again!
Regular 2LP and digital edition available now – link in bio
Originally released in 2010 on Cotton Goods — Craig Tattersall’s own imprint — the extensive album was born from a simple yet committed daily practice: over the course of four weeks, Tattersall set aside an hour each morning — between 6:00 and 7:00 am, before leaving for work — to write, record, mix, and document a piece of music. This daily ritual resulted in 28 pieces, accompanied by drawings of his tape-looping systems and photographs of his setup and the snowy January view from his window.
For many listeners, ‘morning music’ served as a first introduction to his music and sparked a lasting interest in both this alias and his wider body of work. The original cd edition sold out quickly after its release and only occasionally resurfaced in the form of unofficial uploads. As such, this reissue aims to bring renewed attention to ‘morning music’ - and with it, the hope that it will find its way to new ears as well.

Only one week left until ‘morning music’ is out, so happy to share the third set of compositions before the full album drops. In the meantime, the cassettes arrived from Craig who recorded each tape from the previous tape; a process that resulted in a decayed and erased documentation of the initial master – less than a handful are still available.
‘week 3’ is now available to listen alongside the pre-order – link in bio.

‘Pardinyas’ by ghost and tape is out now! Available on limited edition cassette – name your price for the digital version the next two weeks.
With this new work, Heine Christensen continues his explorations into the world of Eurorack. This ever-changing instrument has had a profound impact on his practice, pushing the boundaries of his (re)sampling and sound construction techniques. On Pardinyas, we hear the most minimal and abstract ghost and tape to date. Snippets of melody come and go, almost as if they’re playing a game of hide and seek, but before you even realize it, the abstraction has turned into a meaningful reality. Pardinyas marks a new chapter for ghost and tape, offering a subtle yet focused evolution of his sound, and once again, an ode to composing with sound.

Only 10 days left for our label night at Palmarium with Will Samson and Ulla!
Will Samson returns to Ghent after eight years with his special ambient set, presenting his latest ‘Songs of Beginning and Belonging’. Beatrijs De Clerck joins on violin for what will probably be their last instrumental performance for a while. Final copies of the album will be for sale too!
As a longtime fan of her work, we invited Ulla for the evening. Known for her glitchy electronica to experiments with electro-acoustic sounds, the Berlin based artist blurs the line between the organic and the digital. A perfect fit for this location we thought, no?
Tickets are running low they said - link in bio!
