Blancquaert toont mensen in hun kwetsbaarheid én kracht.

Of twee. 👁️🔩

Did you know this Chinese acupuncture model was made to look European?
This striking object was gifted by China to Germany in 1961. More than a medical model, it was a way to connect two different views on science and medicine.
For a long time, Western science often dismissed knowledge from other parts of the world as ‘unscientific’. At the same time, practices like acupuncture continued to spark curiosity across Europe. This model reflects that fascination. Its European facial features are highly unusual for traditional Chinese acupuncture figures and were intentionally chosen to make Chinese medicine feel more familiar to Western audiences.
This acupuncture model became a bridge between two medical traditions.
Acupuncture model, China, 20th century, Stiftung Deutsches Hygiene-Museum @dhmdresden
Now on view in the exhibition BORDERS at GUM & Botanical Garden.

A futuristic mask emerging from a complex network of lines, volumes and translucent layers. TANATILSUR materializes at the intersection of digital imagination and physical reality — a sculptural form that could only exist through advanced 3D printing technologies.
Originating from an extensive digital research process, this work reflects on the shifting notion of authorship and craftsmanship in contemporary art. Where the hand once defined the object, today it is the algorithm, the software, and the machine that co-shape the final form. The result is a hybrid sculpture: precise, intricate, and almost impossible to fabricate through traditional means.
Within the MASK series, these forms function as speculative identities — portraits of a future human condition, where biology, technology, and culture merge into new aesthetic languages. TANATILSUR embodies this transition: both artifact and prototype, both relic and projection.
