EXCLUSIVE: Darren Stein’s 1999 teen cult classic ‘Jawbreaker’ is getting the stage musical treatment this fall in Los Angeles.

Debuting in September at Hollywood’s Hudson Theatre, Rebecca Gayheart is returning 27 years after starring in the original, for ‘Jawbreaker The Musical.’

“It feels right to launch the musical in LA where the film was shot and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the team we’ve assembled,” said Stein.

GBF (2013) premiered at Tribeca, got slapped with an R rating for what the director called “homosexual references,” and was released on exactly 10 screens. A film with No nudity. No violence. Not a single F-bomb. Just gay teens.

Darren Stein made Jawbreaker in 1999. Then he waited 14 years, came back openly gay, and got to work. The cast he assembled: Luna Lovegood herself (Evanna Lynch) as a Christian extremist who believes the LGBT community is evil. Megan Mullally watching Brokeback Mountain with her gay son and having thoughts. Natasha Lyonne as a guidance counselor who tells a student the day they find their gay will be the happiest of their life, then immediately adds: “and then it’s all downhill from there.”

The Mormon queen smiled to your face and organized against you on the weekend. The GSA couldn’t legally have a gay member. The MPAA said all of this was too dangerous for the kids it was made for.
