If you live in North Grove and have driven past Day and Ohio, you may have noticed construction on the street. We heard from residents about ongoing flooding and the need for sidewalks, so we combined both into one project. A drain has been installed to improve stormwater drainage and prevent water from pooling, and the street will be repaved following the work, leaving the area in better condition overall.

This is part of how we approach improvements in District 2, addressing what residents are experiencing and combining projects where it makes sense. If you have an area that floods, reach out to our office at District2@miami.gov or 305-250-5333. We’ll see what we can do!

I’m incredibly excited to announce that the $8 million allocation we worked to secure at our last Commission meeting will help fund the restoration of the historic Flagler Worker’s Cottage, one of the last remaining direct connections to Henry Flagler and Miami’s earliest days.

Built in the late 1890s, the cottage was originally constructed to house workers building Flagler’s Royal Palm Hotel and is considered the last known building in Miami directly associated with Flagler and the city’s early development.

We are absolutely there to see this piece of Miami history restored and brought back to life for the community to enjoy for generations to come.

I enjoyed some great conversations at the Coconut Grove Woman’s Club. I was especially excited it hear from Caiti Waks about the outstanding work being done through Debris Free Oceans to build a more resilient and sustainable community.

From coastal cleanups to reducing waste and protecting our waterways, these projects are important for the future of our city.

We are proud to support organizations like the Coconut Grove Woman’s Club that continue bringing the community together around important issues and working towards solutions.

Happy Law Enforcement Appreciation Month. Our Miami police officers keep this city running. They show up every day with a commitment to serve, protect, and respond when our community needs it most. Our city would not be the same without them.

Taking a moment to thank each of our officers for the service and sacrifice they make to keep our neighborhoods safe and our community a better place.

In District 2, we work hard to protect, preserve and grow our tree canopy, and that’s reflected in the ongoing plans for many of our parks like Kirk Munroe Park. Over the past few months, we’ve held three community meetings about the enhancements at Kirk Munroe Park with a final meeting coming up in May to review the latest designs and updates. The plan is thoughtfully centered around the park’s banyan tree, with the entire landscape design built around preserving and highlighting the tree as the park’s focal point.

The proposal also includes the addition of over 99 trees, with about 60% being 6-inch DBH, meaning trees with a 6-inch trunk diameter measured at about 4.5 feet above the ground, providing a more mature canopy and greater shade from the start.

I am grateful for the engagement from groups like the Coconut Grove Elementary PTA, the Coconut Grove Village Council, the Coconut Grove BID, and residents who continue to show up and care deeply about their parks and public spaces.Thank you all for your insight and collaboration! From its Hollywood roots to its Amsterdam-inspired design, Tomorrowland reflects the creativity and vision that define Miami’s small business community. Built through years of dedication by its founders, this space is a reminder that the places shaping our city’s culture don’t happen overnight, they are built with passion, persistence, and purpose.

I was honored to speak at the Miami Homes for All Emerging Developers Conference to discuss housing affordability and maintaining the character of our neighborhoods in our city.

We highlighted projects we’re proud to support in the Omni CRA district and in Little Bahamas/West Grove. Projects such as the Hibiscus project, a partnership with Greater St. Paul AME Church, will deliver 10 units focusing on housing local residents and maintaining the character of the neighborhood. Through the Omni CRA, we’re also supporting projects like Kush Wynwood, led by Matt Kuscher. It adds 10 residential units designated for hospitality workers alongside commercial space and helps create housing opportunities for employees at Kush.

It’s important to keep in mind that affordable housing doesn’t always mean large-scale developments. Sometimes it’s smaller, intentional projects that fit within a neighborhood and make a meaningful impact.
We’re focused on supporting projects that deliver true affordability, respect the character of our communities, and serve Miami residents.
