CURE International Children’s Hospitals provide life-changing surgery to children in Jesus’ name. 🏥 ✝️

While many of us have been off for this last week between Christmas and New Year's, several of the CURE hospitals have been steaming ahead full force. Just because culture rests doesn't mean kids don't need life-saving surgeries.
One of these kids is Miracle in Uganda! Her mother, Sheila, named her Miracle because that's how she and her husband view baby Miracle – a living miracle! Baby Miracle was born at the beginning of December with a condition called frontal encephalocele. This is where a baby's skull doesn't fully close inside the womb, and brain matter seeps out, creating a sac-like swelling on the baby's face. When Sheila was twenty-three weeks pregnant, the doctors informed her about Miracle's condition and advised her to have an abortion because the baby had no chance of surviving birth.
"I could not abort my child," she quietly confided. As a Christian, Sheila kept praying and believing in God for a miracle to happen in her unborn baby's life.
Fast forward to earlier this month when Sheila gave birth to Miracle. The doctors were shocked to see baby Miracle not only born alive but ultimately in good health besides the encephalocele. She didn't even have to be put on oxygen, and all her organs were functioning well — the exact opposite of what the doctors predicted would happen.
Thankfully, a friend from Sheila's church whose child also had a neurological condition informed Sheila about CURE Children's Hospital Uganda, and Sheila wasted no time bringing Miracle here.
Now, Miracle has had her surgery to remove her encephalocele, and as we're going into this new year, Miracle is going into a new future! This new future is all thanks to generous CURE donors from all around the world! They made this possible.

Ara Jane had surgery at @tebowcure Philippines in 2019, and she continues to defy the odds in her recovery. Her family saw how difficult it was to see her walk without any assistance after surgery. At the height of the pandemic and living in a country with one of the longest lockdowns in the world, Ara Jane could not travel to the city for a doctor’s visit to replace her worn-out braces. Ara Jane’s parents were left without a choice but to teach her how to walk without her braces.
“When she first came to Tebow CURE, Ara Jane was quiet and frightened. As she went through treatment, she came alive and was filled with joy. Sometimes the miracle is watching the Lord give a kid the strength to hang tough through an awfully difficult recovery process with grace and joy.” - Dr. Shelley, one of Ara Jane’s surgeons at @cureintl.
Earlier this year, we saw sweet Ara Jane at @tebowcure in the Philippines, and it was a miracle to see her walking without any assistive device. In addition to her outwardly visible physical changes, we noticed that she exuded more joy and gratitude than when she first started the process. We are so amazed to see God’s healing in Ara Jane’s life, physically and spiritually. Thank you, TTF Family, for your support and for helping us bring Faith, Hope and Love to the most vulnerable people around the world!💚

The CURE Biomedical technicians are an essential part of every CURE hospital. Every day, they work behind the scenes to ensure that all the life-saving medical equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for use. Their expertise helps make sure that CURE patients receive the highest-quality care possible, no matter where in the world they're receiving surgery!
We are super grateful for the Biomedical teams at each hospital, our global biomed team, and the volunteers who donate their time to come help out and train. Their work isn't generally on the front page, but without them, the mission of healing the sick and proclaiming the Kingdom of God wouldn't be possible!

The greatest long-term impact happens when care is led by surgeons who understand the language, culture, and healthcare realities of their own communities. Having surgeons from the same countries in which they're serving also gives the kids someone to look up to and a dream to aspire to!
Here, Reconstructive Plastic Surgeon Dr. Tesfaye operates in the CURE Ethiopia Surgical Center.

We've been in a big push over the past few years to increase the care we offer to reach more kids who need life-transforming surgery. That's why we've begun offering more complex care through the Tebow Spine Center at CURE Ethiopia. Here, visiting spine surgeon Dr. Nelson operates with CURE Ethiopia Spine Fellow Dr. Yohannis to correct a young patient's scoliosis.
The goal isn't just more or better care, it's more AND better care!

By the time Anthony got connected to CURE Zambia, he had already lived a big chunk of his life with a cleft lip*. But thanks to the Cleft Care Center at CURE Zambia, he received the surgery needed to repair his lip and allow him to show off that magnificent smile!

One of the great things about the staff at each CURE hospital is the attention and care they give to patients! Yeah, we give the kids medical care, but it's also HOW we deliver it.
Here, a member of the CURE Niger staff sits down to walk patients and their caretakers through what will happen as they enter the surgical center for surgery. She's got step-by-step photos in that green book there, and she explains everything they're going to see, hear, and experience! It's a little thing that puts patients at ease. It transforms surgery from a scary experience to something they know about and are prepared for!
