Announcing the Ballet Central 2026 repertoire...

Inspired by the 18 cycles of the insistent, looping crescendo of Maurice Ravel’s Boléro, BOLERO 18 re-imagines the iconic 1928 score through a contemporary lens, capturing the threshold and restless energy of youth and the tension between individuality and collective force. Propelled by this new generation of dancers, it draws out the duality at the heart of the music -its mechanistic repetition and underlying magnetic power revealing both its rigorous structure and its surging emotional drive.

This is a community in motion: collective, charged, and unapologetically self-possessed.

Announcing the Ballet Central 2026 repertoire...

Solitaire, choreographed by Kenneth MacMillan, first premiered in 1956 by Sadler’s Wells Theatre Ballet. This one-act ballet contrasts scenes of loneliness and friendship, woven together by Malcolm Arnold’s intricate score Eight English Dances (Op. 27 and 33). The work, subtitled A kind of game for one, follows a solitary female, ‘The Girl’. We see her search for companionship played out in a dreamscape.

Ballet Central is delighted to present Solitaire, and is grateful to Lady Deborah MacMillan for her generous support, and Lynn Wallis for her care and expertise in staging this piece.

Preparing for the future… Last month, our Ballet Futures dancers were invited to @csbschool for a day to talk all things auditions!

Auditioning for ballet programmes or vocational training can be intimidating, so we wanted to give our dancers a real sense of how an audition might play out, and share with them all the info and tips they need to succeed.

The dancers took part in a mock audition, in the format of a ballet class, and heard first-hand what the panel would be looking for. They went on a tour of Central’s Countess of Wessex Studios, and met young students from their Associate programme who talked about their own audition experience. They also got to learn about the school’s full-time Foundation and BA (Hons) degree programmes, and post-graduation training pathways.

Ballet Futures is here to help these young dancers develop the skills, confidence and knowledge to reach their full potential. We are grateful to Central School of Ballet for opening their doors to us!
