Today, as part of my @churchill_trust journey I met an inspirational young social entrepreneur who has used craft for social impact. Elena founded @craft_forward during Covid whilst experiencing isolation. Her grandmother taught her to knit and she found that working with her hands really helped. At that time in London there was an increase in people ‘living rough’ and others experiencing displacement through domestic violence. Thinking she might make a difference Elena started to knit squares and make them into blankets. She got online and called for help. Craft Forward now runs workshops where people connect and experience community support through knitting and crochet. The Blankets for London initiative now distributes hundreds of handmade blankets to those in need each year. Such an inspiration. So many layers to this. The world needs more Elena’s!

We are so lucky with craft with you… everywhere! As well as our Knit Clubs in Brixton, in the past year we have run sessions all across London including our incredible Big Cathedral Knit events (which is back for round 5 in August, incase you missed it!!) 🫶

Plus, with the launch of Blankets for the World Craft Forward’s impact really is everywhere, with our amazing Volunteer Ambassadors working hard to coordinate projects in their local area 🥰
