A year ago I wrote a play from honestly (and for anyone who’s seen it, not surprisingly) a pretty unhinged place. I was really processing some s**t.
For this reason I’ll probably never get over the shock of it winning the @dividedcultureco playwriting prize, getting the news and getting whiskey drunk with my dad on our holiday to celebrate, repeatedly checking the email to make sure it was real. Because what a prize it was - an R&D and a professional, two week run at Contact Theatre, an iconic institution.
I knew DCC would do a good job but I really did not know HOW GOOD. Watching @congoodwin direct and bring his vision to life has been a total joy and completely awe inspiring. I felt so respected and valued as a writer and this process truly restored my faith in creative collaboration and how magical it can be. Our cast @jennasianohara, @jordanakkaya and @shifaa.arfan completely blew us away - your dedication and love for this project throughout has been amazing - don’t forget us when you’re famous okay.

BEARS BEARS BEARS 🐻 🐻 🐻 it’s the emotional post you all saw coming!!!
A year ago I wrote a play from honestly (and for anyone who’s seen it, not surprisingly) a pretty unhinged place. I was really processing some s**t.
For this reason I’ll probably never get over the shock of it winning the @dividedcultureco playwriting prize, getting the news and getting whiskey drunk with my dad on our holiday to celebrate, repeatedly checking the email to make sure it was real. Because what a prize it was - an R&D and a professional, two week run at Contact Theatre, an iconic institution.
I knew DCC would do a good job but I really did not know HOW GOOD. Watching @congoodwin direct and bring his vision to life has been a total joy and completely awe inspiring. I felt so respected and valued as a writer and this process truly restored my faith in creative collaboration and how magical it can be. Our cast @jennasianohara, @jordanakkaya and @shifaa.arfan completely blew us away - your dedication and love for this project throughout has been amazing - don’t forget us when you’re famous okay.
Having audiences connect to this story, chatting to all you cultured ppl in the bar afterwards (the real reason you came) (IYKYK) - made me feel so seen and so much less alone in some very complicated feelings.
I never in my wildest dreams thought we’d sell out, get rave reviews, and get such gorgeous audience feedback for a brand new piece of theatre. THANK YOU to everyone who came, to my friends and family for your support - you are the best I could ever ask for - and to @contactmcr for backing us all the way. As wise sage of our time Gabrielle told us, dreams can come true.
Theatre rn is more important than ever for looking at hard, sticky topics, but also for getting us together, in person, off our phones, it will survive the robots and we have to invest in it ✊ thank you for doing that with us.

Since graduating from Drama and Contemporary Performance at MST, graduate Connor Goodwin has become the Creative Director of his own theatre company @dividedcultureco , a Non-Exec Director of the award-winning @imitatingthedog and has directed shows across the country 👏
Now, he is set to direct the new production Bears Bears Bears at @contactmcr (May 6-16) written by @natalielbeech which won the inaugural DCC Playwriting Prize.
