I have learnt many things over the last months while preparing for this recital, and I will make sure these experiences will be put to good use in the near future 💪💪💪

Over the past 12 months, I’ve probably attended more concerts by highly skilled professional musicians than at any other point in my life. The experience has been both deeply enriching and highly motivating, inspiring me to keep challenging myself, never give up, and continually strive for improvement (or at least not get any lazier 😝)

I’m truly grateful for the chance to travel across Germany, Europe, and Asia, which has allowed me to experience not only diverse cultures but also unique musical traditions and ways of life.

Work officially began for me yesterday, and I look forward to a fruitful and rewarding season ahead.

My initial plan was to hold a chamber recital when i came home this year, but since it did not happen, I decided to make a recording instead so that I would not be slacking around too much, munching away all the good food 😅

So about this loop...😅

Very excited to be premiering my arrangement of Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty for 2 flutes and piano with Clement and Samuel tomorrow!

It is an exciting piece with themes and motifs from the ballet in the style of the Doppler brothers and Clement Doucet. Hopefully, this will be a cool addition to the 2 flutes and piano repertoire 🙂

Come and catch this along with other beautiful flute works tomorrow. You will definitely be entertained! If not, @clementlim_flute will money back you.

Seems like my recent posts are about master pieces after master pieces. 😆

I have the honor and opportunity to play Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun not just once, not twice, but thrice in the last week, while working with conducting students of the Dresden Musikhochschule.

It's been a wonderful experience while working withthe younger musicians and I learnt 2 very important takeaways (let's make it 3) from the last 3 concerts:

No.1 Do not eat too much 2~2.5 hours before the concert, especially if your biggg solo is at the start of the concert. Otherwise your food's not gonna be too friendly with the air. 😅

No. 2 Always look for emergency breathing spots in case something happens at your usual breathing spot (phew😮‍💨)

No. 3 Same piece(s) different conductors, different soloists = 2000% concentration alertness, especially on the rubato passages.

So now I can say I have played 3 different versions of the piece in the last 15 years; solo flute with piano, Schöneberg's arrangement for small enesemble, and the original. Yay!

Ok that's all folks. Now I can find some time to try and look into my upcoming recitals happening in July and August in Singapore and Taiwan!

I believe "Die Moldau" is probably one of the "big" flute orchestral pieces that inspired many flute players to fall in love with the flute. It certainly was so for me.

I first got exposed to "Die Moldau" 20 years ago from buying one of my very first CDs and listened VERY extensively to the recording (Don Juan and Night on the Bare/Bald Mountain included, just saying lol). It was only then that I started to pay a lot more attention to classical music and gradually fell in love with it, as compared to when I first started playing the piano when I was 4 🙈

Smetana's wonderful programatic writing really transformed the flutes, clarinets and strings into the gushing sound of the river flow, making the music come alive in the concert halls and recordings all around the world.

I'm really grateful that I have the chance to play TWICE, not just "Die Moldau" but also the whole of "Má vlast" which consists of his 5 other amazingly written symphonic tone poems on this 200th Birthday of Smetana's with my colleagues at the @erzphilharmonie

Not so long ago,the meaning of 3G in Germany stands for “Genesen, Geimpft, Getestet”.

However, we would like to look at the term "3G" from a different perspective and see it not as a form of restriction, but as the freedom of music.

So in this case, the 3Gs are the tonalities of the 3 pieces which we will play for the concert, 2 in G Major and 1 in G Minor.

We will be performing 3 wonderful Trios on 14th January 2023 in @kulturhaus.schwartzsche.villa in Berlin-Steglitz!

Next up is our flutist/flautist, Clement Lim! @clementlim_flute

Born and grew up in Singapore, Clement is recently appointed as the assistant principal flute of the Erzgebirgische Philharmonie Aue in the German Ore Mountains of the Saxony region. He was previously the solo flute of the Eberswalde Concert Orchestra.

Clement graduated with distinction for his Master degree in the Folkwang University of the Arts Essen while embarking on his orchestral career. Prior to coming to Germany, he was a diploma student of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore.

During his free time, Clement enjoys playing some computer games with his friends and making homecooked food to share 😊
