Fowl play! 🐓

A 1980s performance of Mussorgsky's opera 'Boris Godunov' in the Sydney Opera House featured live chickens. One of them wandered too close to the edge of the stage and fell into the orchestra pit, landing in a cellist’s lap mid-performance.A protective net was later installed above the pit to prevent it happening again.

Surprise! 🥳

Film composer Hans Zimmer gatecrashed RAYE’s headline performance on tour in Los Angeles. Zimmer collaborated with the singer-songwriter on her recent single ‘Click Clack Symphony’, which they performed together on stage following his surprise.

He commented: “She asked everybody if I was going to come see the show. (Even her dad was in on it and told her I wasn’t around.) It was a major surprise!

“RAYE is one of the truly great original artists, a brilliant writer, an astonishing singer - and knows how to tackle quite serious subjects with a London wit. We have been friends for a looong time… to say I adore her is a complete understatement!”

Farewell, Dame Felicity Lott ❤️

The celebrated British soprano was best known for her sparkling performances of music by Richard Strauss, from his Four Last Songs to Der Rosenkavalier.

Over a four-decade international career, Lott worked with major musicians, orchestras, and opera houses throughout the world, from the Vienna Philharmonic with Georg Solti and the London Philharmonic under Bernard Haitink, to the Boston Symphony and André Previn.

Lott made her debut at the English National Opera in 1975 as a last-minute stand in for Pamina in Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’. From there, she went on to grace the stages of London’s Royal Opera House, New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Paris’ Palais Garnier, the Vienna State Opera, and many more.

Felicity Lott died on 15 May at the age of 79, shortly after announcing she had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Join Aled Jones from 10am, as he celebrates her life and music.

Cheers to that! 🎻

Composer Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber has raised over half a million pounds for music education by selling the final bottles of his wine collection.

The proceeds will go to the Music in Secondary Schools Trust, which oversees Lloyd Webber’s Music in Schools Programme.

The collection raised a total of £517,910, which will be used to provide free instruments, weekly tuition and a classical music curriculum in disadvantaged schools. It is estimated that the money raised will allow a further 4,000 students to participate, in addition to the nearly 30,000 students the programme has supported to date.

Lloyd Webber said: “The beneficial power of music education in schools has long proved to be a no-brainer. Quite simply, music empowers young people. From academic achievement to solving social behaviour and mental health issues, the benefits to the whole community, not just the young students, are demonstrably proven.”
