Serving a moment… in slow motion.
If fashion is art, it should reflect the world we’re living in—and demand we change it.
This isn’t just a look.
This is the Bulletproof Dress.
Designed for the America we live in, by @clarenceruth.
Fashion makes statements.
But laws make change.

Captured in motion by @enews & @eentertainment

We didn’t go to the #MetGala. Our message did.
On the biggest night in fashion, we crafted a dress that demands to be seen.
Designed by @clarenceruth, founder of @cottedarmesnyc, and stitched with ballistic-resistant material, this piece reimagines how fashion can bring awareness to a cause.
If fashion is art, it should reflect the world we’re living in.
A statement that refuses to be ignored.
Because what we wear says something.
And right now, silence says too much.

The Bulletproof Dress.

What you wear can carry a message the cameras simply cannot edit out. That is why, on fashion’s biggest night, we wore this dress and hacked the #MetGala without even attending. Kids in this country are being killed by gun violence, and safety has been treated as something only some people get to have. Our priority is keeping attention on the cause.

Gun violence is killing kids in this country. The #MetGala is fashion’s biggest night, and the world is watching what people wear. This dress is a response to a world where safety is not guaranteed and protection should not be a luxury.

Artist Spotlight: James Rubio

Born in San Francisco in 1982, Rubio studied photography at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, but it was New York City that clarified his direction. In 2006, he joined the Antagonist Art Movement, launching his exhibition career at Niagara Bar and quickly expanding into international group shows and murals across New York, Austin, Chihuahua, and Quito. As a member of Apostrophe NYC’s Base 12 Project, his work has been featured at the Whitney Museum of American Art, MoMA PS1, Coney Island’s Luna Park, Mana Contemporary, and the MTA’s Kosciuszko Street J train station—proving that public art and institutional recognition aren’t opposing forces. Now showing with Ki Smith Gallery, Rubio’s work sits in prominent private and public collections nationwide.

Pieces are available for purchase at kismithgallery.com and carrom.com

The Knockturnal

We’re honored to be featured by Knockturnal in their coverage of the Carrom x Clarence Ruth NYFW panel event. Thank you for highlighting this meaningful conversation, moderated by Racquel Chevremont at Ki Smith Gallery, and for recognizing the exhibition during Black History Month, presented by Cotte D’Armes.

This moment—where art, fashion, heritage, and community converged—represented a powerful chapter in our ongoing dialogue around culture and creative expression. We’re deeply grateful to Knockturnal for amplifying these voices and capturing the spirit of the evening with such thoughtfulness.

With sincere appreciation to our partners and supporters who helped bring this experience to life. We look forward to continuing the conversation and building what’s next.

The event was graciously supported by LVMH, VOSS Water, Hampton Water Rosé, and Algodon Wine.

Artist Spotlight: Sebastian Piras

Sebastian Piras has spent decades documenting the people who shape culture. The New York City-based mixed media artist works across painting, photography, and filmmaking, best known for portraiture that David A. Ross, former director of the Whitney Museum, called “probing and extraordinarily beautiful…ultimately producing winners on both sides of the camera.” His first publication, Artists Exposed (1996), captured Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and other defining figures of contemporary art. His second monograph, A Pocketful of Contemporary Artists (2008), spans two decades and over 120 critically acclaimed images, now published, exhibited, and collected worldwide. Beyond the photograph, Piras has directed documentaries including Taylor Mead Unleashed (featuring Allen Ginsberg and Quentin Crisp) and short films Art Depot and FOG, working extensively in television and film production. Piras is currently developing a video profile of artist and architect Richard Meier alongside two photography exhibitions.

Pieces are available for purchase at kismithgallery.com and carrom.com

Artist Spotlight: James Reyes

James Reyes paints figures the way memory works—half-formed, visceral, somewhere between recognition and dream. Born in the Bronx in 1991 to Puerto Rican heritage, Reyes earned his BFA from the School of Visual Arts in 2014 before diving into NYC’s guerrilla exhibition scene with Apostrophe NYC’s subway installations. As part of Base 12, he staged pop-up shows at the Whitney Museum of American Art, MoMA PS1, and Luna Park, proving that art doesn’t wait for permission. His practice exists at the intersection of figuration and abstraction—chaotic brushstrokes, splashes, and drips building bodies that feel simultaneously rendered and surreal, shaped by the cultural and social environments that formed him. Solo exhibitions at Apostrophe NYC/Mana Contemporary (2017) and Ki Smith Gallery (2022, 2023) have solidified his presence, with recent features at the 2025 SCOPE Art Fair in Miami and international shows including Clutch Magazine Trades Fair in Yokohama. His work sits in private collections, Mana Contemporary’s permanent collection, and a museum launching in Baltimore in 2026.

Experience these works firsthand at Ki Smith Gallery through February 22, 2026. Pieces are available for purchase at kismithgallery.com and carrom.com

Artist Spotlight: Tom Carson

Meet the Master Craftsman Behind Carrom X Clarence

As the co-manufacturer for The Carrom Company, Tom Carson brings this same meticulous craftsmanship to every game that bears the Carrom name. For the Carrom X Clarence Ruth collection, he ensures that these artist collaborations meet the exacting standards that have defined The Carrom Company’s 130+ year legacy.

Tom Carson’s story is one of artisan dedication spanning nearly five decades. What began as a woodworking hobby in 1977 grew into Carson Wood Specialties, a family-operated workshop in Stevensville, Michigan where quality and craftsmanship are never compromised.

Working alongside his wife Charlene and daughter Nicole, Tom has built everything from custom bars for local businesses to conference tables crafted from historic trees. His work has served everyone from Southwest Michigan townships to celebrities, but it’s his approach that sets him apart: no two projects are ever the same, and every piece receives his personal attention.

That dedication was proven in 2009 when an early morning fire destroyed their shop of 32 years. The next day, Tom and his family were back at work in a temporary space. By October, they had rebuilt and reopened in a new location, less than a mile from where they started.

Living just a quarter-mile from his workshop, Tom can often be found there even on weekends - sawdust on his clothes, working with exotic hardwoods sourced from South America and premium maple. Each game is not just assembled, it’s handcrafted by Tom and his family team with the care and precision of true artisans who believe that quality work never goes out of style.

Experience these works firsthand at Ki Smith Gallery through February 22, 2026. Pieces are available for purchase at kismithgallery.com and carrom.com
