I just finished up day 3 of @namtaartmaterialsassociation in St. Louis with my good friends at @pentelofamerica , and I can finally share some of the art I made for the event. This design is for a new t shirt for Pentel in their signature series, which we also made into stickers. I'll be doing giveaways on both, so stay tuned!

The second volume of my horror sketchbook is officially under way! For the last year I've been tearing through figure drawing books, it feels great to get back to this series and work a little tighter. I had to start with a classic, Eyes Without a Face. What should I do next? Let me know!

Well, it has been a while since I've released an original movie poster! So I am very happy to share this new Misery piece for @spoke_art , released this weekend at @wondercon . I've had this piece in mind for a long time, I'm a huge Stephen King fan and Rob Reiner's adapation of Misery is one of the best to hit the screen.

I wanted to make a piece that reframes a quiet moment of compassion with sinister foreboding. I will admit, I went into this without looking far enough ahead, overly confident that I could make it work. What followed was weeks of indecision, tests (swipe to see one), and failed executions before finally hitting a revelation... to simply do the title treatment by hand with a bottle of ink and a dip pen. I am often concerned that my ideas come off as overly glib and clever for the sake of clever and lack emotional resonance, which was very clear in earlier iterations. As my friend @24houremergency hilariously (and rightfully) said, it looks like the foot from Monty Python. I hope the bit of hand in the piece adds emotion.

That being said, I'm really happy with where this ended up, Reiner was a true genius and it's intimidating trying to honor his legacy. I hope you dig it, let me know what you think!

I love silent films. All of it, from Chaplin to Murnau and everything in between. I remember back in San Francisco going to the Silent Film Festival at the Castro, the best theater ever, seeing beautiful restorations with live music accompaniment. And for that era, there is no actress more iconic than Clara Bow (sorry Lillian Gish, you're still my favorite). So when the great @animalrummy asked me if I'd be down to recreate the original onesheet for Clara Bow's "IT" as a screen print to fundraise for the San Francisco Silent Film Festival, I couldn't say no. I was so excited to officially announce the @pentelofamerica Illustration Pro Kit last week. Now let's deeper look under the hood and finally answer the question... WHAT'S IN THE BOX?!

When I curated this kit, my goal was to include EVERYTHING I use, including all the rare stuff that is super hard to find.

- First, the big ticket items and my personal favorites - brush pens. These are the tools I use for all my personal work, the ones I built my career on. We have a black washable brush pen for ink wash, a black pigment brush pen for line work, my personal favorite - the red color brush (almost impossible to find elsewhere), a holy grail item - an opaque white brush pen (yes, it's true!), and an aquash water brush for washing.

- Next up... pens! We included a full set of Pointliners, from the microscopic .05 to a bold .8. These are the best technical pens I've ever used, super dark and waterproof with indestructible tips.

- Also, another rare pick, the Stylo. This feels closer to a crow quill than a pen, I use this for all my ink sketching. And what set would be complete without a white gel pen?

- Finally, we have the industry standard Graphgear in .5mm and a soft eraser.

But that's not all! Each of the first 1000 kits has a signed high quality art print.

But... that's still not all! I also wrote up my personal tips and tricks and filmed tutorials of my working process, available by QR code in the box. And lastly, if you get one I will love you forever. :)
