Welcome Lim-Kong x Cinevolution presents
Welcome Lim-Kong Sharing session:

Making and releasing this project has been a grassroots, collective effort with fellow artists, and sending this film into the world at this moment takes courage. But that’s what we're supposed to do, isn’t it?
Thank you for all the support along the way. This is a long film, and it’s a beautiful, bold one.
The world première is in a week on Saturday, Jan. 24th from 12pm – 4pm at The Cinematheque.

New year is here!
Sharing a few photos from the Cinevolution party — a farewell and a reunion. After 18 years, I’ve decided to retire from the organization I co-established, in order to focus on new film projects.
It was such a memorable night - artists from past festivals, collaborators, community partners, board members, volunteers, colleagues, and friends ... all came together, some of whom I hadn’t seen in over a decade.
It all began in 2007, on a daydreaming afternoon in September, when I made up the name “cinevolution”, hoping to create a niche space for myself and others who were newcomers to this land to do something imaginative, in a liberating way. Ever since then, the organization became my art school, where I learned from everyone encountered -- whether an artist, an activist, or a walk-in audience at our events.
From "New Asia" to "Your Kontinent", we cultivated a unique playground in Richmond, for experimenting and challenging. Over the years, the organization has developed its distinct vision. With the leadership of Yun-Jou Chang (@yunjou.c) , Cinevolution will continue to carry its strong, independent voice.
Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate, to those who sent meaningful notes, and to those who've shared this journey! Wishing 2026 a year of wonder and courage!
See you down the road.

interplay_2026 proudly presents the World Premiere of THE BORDER, the latest feature documentary by award-winning filmmaker Ying Wang.
Following the international success of her previous film The World Is Bright (2020) – a critically acclaimed portrait of immigration, mental health and the Kafkaesque bureaucracy at the heart of global migration which continues to be shown around the world – THE BORDER asks us to confront the borders we inherit, the ones we internalize, and the fragile freedoms that shape and restrict how we connect, belong, and move through the world.
📍 1131 Howe St, Vancouver
🗓️ Saturday, January 24
🕚 Doors 11:30
🎬 Screening + Artist Talk 12:00–16:00
On Jan 24, join us at The Cinematheque as the film traces the emotional landscape of Peace Arch State Park, the last shared space between Canada and the US during the 2020 border closure, and an often absurd theatre where contradictions of sovereignty, identity, and belonging played out in full view. Painstakingly filmed and assembled between 2020-2024, the film is a study in deep listening: quietly witnessing the surreal choreography of families, lovers, and displaced souls amid rising border anxieties, and letting the border speak through those who crossed it, waited beside it, mourned beneath its shadow. What will you hear?
We’re honoured to close this year’s festival with a work that resonates deeply with the ethos of interplay_: questioning boundaries, embracing complexity, and creating space for collective reflection.

In folklore, Mago is a giant woman and creator of the world, Mother Earth for the Korean peninsula. Though lesser known than the creation myth centering Hwanung, a son from heaven, Mago stories have a much longer history – suggesting that matrilineal cultures and worldviews were strongly present on the land, despite the relatively recent history of rigid patriarchy.
During this work in progress presentation, the artists will share their documentation and reflections on working transpacifically to explore themes of gender, queerness, transness, ecology, and transformation.

In folklore, Mago is a giant woman and creator of the world, Mother Earth for the Korean peninsula.
Over several years, artists Minah Lee, Wryly Andherson, Romi Kim and Jaewoo Kang visited and worked closely with the community of Haenam, Korea (including local shaman-artist Pilsu Park, other artists, and residents) to learn, explore, participate, and document contemporary Shamanism unique to the region.
During their most recent visit, they worked with the community to create a giant Mago puppet on the land using locally gathered materials and imagined new clothing for Mago's journey.
We have invited the artists to share their video excerpts and reflections on working transpacifically to explore themes of gender, queerness, transness, ecology, and transformation. Join us for the conversation on this fascinating project!
