Dave Chappelle honored Eddie Murphy at his AFI Lifetime Achievement Award gala by telling a really sweet story about hanging with Eddie at his house two weeks ago as his grandkids played in the pool. They talked for the first time about Eddie’s late brother, Charlie, and Dave reveals it was Eddie who suggested he do a Chappelle’s Show movie or reboot. So Dave used the opportunity to pitch Eddie on being part of it. “Eddie, if I do it, man, do the Charlie parts and let’s fucking go,” he said. “Thank you for everything. Tonight is not just an achievement of a professional career going incredibly right. Tonight is a lifetime achievement. Those grandkids playing, the fact that you still look young and beautiful, that beautiful family you’re sitting with, man, you are still the hero I want to be. Thank you, sir.” #davechappell #eddiemurphy #afi

Well, she got it! Spent some time with the brilliant @lisakudrow for this new digital cover story about the long awaited (and final) season of her beloved series The Comeback. We had breakfast at The Polo Lounge a few tables away from where she and Michael Patrick King hatched the idea for the show over lunch in May 2004. A full circle moment for her, a thrill for me to spend two hours asking her questions about Valerie Cherish, AI and shooting on Friends’ Stage 24 on the WB lot over scrambled eggs and coffee. Even caught up with her friends @jenniferaniston @courteneycoxofficial and it’s confirmed: Everyone loves Lisa Kudrow.

I credit sobriety and four years spent living back in Iowa for a fascination with people who make surprising pivots in their lives. I’m especially fascinated by people who leave Hollywood to write completely new second chapters that have nothing to do with entertainment. Enter Eliza Dushku. After 25 years in front of cameras acting in everything from Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Bring it On and working with Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Jamie Lee Curtis, Eliza abruptly left L.A. after experiencing a “moment of truth” during a psychedelic therapy session on MDMA and psilocybin. She had some trauma to process and needed to live some life back in her hometown of Boston where she went to college, fell in love, got married, became a mother to two boys and graduated with a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling with a focus on addiction, recovery and trauma. She’s now a therapist with a focus on treating veterans suffering from PTSD with psychedelic therapies. It’s a wild and inspired story. I’m so stoked (and grateful for her generosity and openness) that on a recent afternoon, I got to share a sofa with Eliza for an hour and hear all about her brand new life and how she wrote a Hollywood ending all her own.
