Contemporary warfare designed the survival vest- made for helicopter rescues in Vietnam, and to carry military equipment on singular bodies over long distances, turning the individual solider into a machine for dominance. War in that era was shown on a daily basis, unlike today when we are as distant as the computer systems used to eradicate people, buildings and entire cities from the air.
Initially our conversation began, in 2022, looking at the aesthetic of an alt-right ‘survivor’, a crossover of an Appalachian hunter and oversized SUV Maga dime-store suburban tat stuffed into multiple vest compartments.

We can overdo it too- and what are paintings if not aesthetic mirrors to capitalist drives?

Pockets were originally separate, autonomous garments, until the mid-17th century, worn on top of clothing, when women’s pockets then moved under their skirts and eventually became handbags, whilst men’s became integrated into their pants and jackets. This gender division: keeping things secret and accessible at the same time, who gets to be concealed or open carry?

Sabrina Seifried is a designer based in Brussels. She works between costume design and fashion, collaborates with visual artists and co-organizes the artist-run space WINONA. Her recent research into display windows titled ‘Four Windows’ was exhibited at au JUS Brussels in 2025.Melissa Gordon is a painter and editor based in Brussels. Her artistic practice has in recent years been focused on questions around gesture and authorship. She has shown recently in ‘Painting After Painting’ at SMAK, Extra City Kunsthal, Kunsthall Oslo, Towner Gallery, UK and will exhibit in the upcoming KANAL ‘A Truly Immense Journey’.

The work on show spans a wide range of techniques and sensibilities — screen print, etching, lithography, relief, risography, monoprint, and methods that resist easy categorisation. It spans generations of students and graduates anddifferent understandings of what printmaking can do and where it can go.

Splinter is an Antwerp-based artist collective of printmakers who studied or graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, with a focus on contemporary printmaking. The core idea is to support printmakers and make the medium more accessible both technically and intellectually.
The work on show spans a wide range of techniques and sensibilities — screen print, etching, lithography, relief, risography, monoprint, and methods that resist easy categorisation. It spans generations of students and graduates anddifferent understandings of what printmaking can do and where it can go.
For Antwerp Art Weekend 2026, we bring together old members and new ones — a reunion that is less about nostalgia and more about what still connects us.
