A statement from the Chow Down team x

It’s with very heavy hearts we announce Chow Down will be closing its doors for summer on Sunday 6th August and departing from Temple Arches.

What started out as a 10 week pop-up in response to the Covid restrictions of summer 2020, morphed into a three year successful residency and became a key event destination in Leeds. However, unfortunately after being impacted by the cost of living crisis, changing consumer behaviour for food and drink offerings and increases in all costs involved with running a temporary site, the business is sadly not sustainable to continue in its current format.

We have achieved so many things at the current site, including helping to support the regeneration of the Temple district alongside our partners and site developer CEG, who we are hugely grateful to for giving us the opportunity to launch Chow Down and hope to work together again on fresh concepts for Temple Arches in the future.

Over the course of 3 years at Temple Arches we had the honour of hosting over 150 amazing street food traders, including kitchen residencies with Sarto, MorMor, Torito Taco, Jimmy Macs, Braizin Squad, Bastards Bistro, Slice Boro and Parmogeddon, We also held the British Street Food Awards in 2021. 
 
Outside of food we launched some amazing event concepts, such as our Winter Village concept which took place over two Christmases, our Camp Drag brunches, plus memorable DJ sets and performances from Fat Tony, Mr Scruff, Crazy P, and Mr Wilsons Second Liners. 
 
We’re also very proud of our two beer collabs with North Brewing and our mural art projects with local heroes Nicholas Dixon and Melody Mural. 
 
While this is the end of Chow Down in its current guise, we are exploring new city centre opportunities and aim to relaunch a new concept in Leeds in the near future.
 
We would like to say a huge thank you to our team, traders, DJs, performers, contractors, and most importantly our lovely loyal customers for supporting us. It would mean the world to us if you could join us for the last ever two weekends at Temple Arches for a final cocktail, beer, dance and some top notch scran.

Can’t believe I’m saying this but, it’s time to say goodbye to @chowdownuk 😭 😭. I remember following covid restrictions this was one of the first place we could eat & drink outside and I was just SO happy to be with my friends, it holds a special place in my heart. And the drag brunches, oh my god so much fun!

This reel is my day to night Chow Down experience this Summer. Starting with last weekend’s Battle of the Burgers [invite] and a recent evening dancing to the steel drums!

Burger battle included 5 different vendors, so we tried them all in the name of science… here’s what we had:

- It’s Sticky from @bundmcburgers

- The Elwood & Taj Mahal from @alleycatsleeds

- Braised Jerk Goat Slider from @braizinsquad

- Birria Burger from @bastards_bistro

- Truffle Burger & Filthy fries from @meatstacklds

They were all so different, I am a sucker for a chicken burger and birria dip so @bastards_bistro pipped the post for me. Be sure to follow the vendors journeys post Chow Down.

🍔 BATTLE OF THE BURGERS 🍔

Yesterday I was kindly invited down to give my verdict on ‘Battle of the Burgers’ hosted at @chowdownuk

There were 6 different vendors to choose from, of course we had to try them all for it to be a fair competition. Here’s what we went for…

- It’s Sticky from @bundmcburgers
- The Elwood from @alleycatsleeds
- Braised Jerk Goat Slider from @braizinsquad
- Birria Burger from @bastards_bistro
- Drunk Maradona from @jukeburger
- Truffle Burger from @meatstacklds

So for me the clear winner was the Drunk Maradona Burger from @jukeburger, the burger was a slider size but boy was it bursting with flavour. A close second and Liams winner was The Elwood from @alleycatsleeds stacked with beef patties, bacon, onions and American cheese 🤤

We had so much fun trying out all the different burgers and drinks by the open fire for the afternoon, all the staff were super helpful and accommodating too!! We also had to get some pics in the photo booth on our way out but as you can tell we were never ready😂

Unfortunately @chowdownuk is closing its doors and next weekend, 4th - 6th August, will be your last chance to experience this great outdoor venue, I’m so glad I got the chance to go down one last time, so get booked in and don’t miss out!!
