Nolan as Bacchus, 2025
oil on linen, 210x200 cm / 83x79"
My longest term project, hundreds of hours over 4 months, 95% of the time with my palette knife, my unofficial thesis from Florence and my last two years of post-grad artmaking.
Thank you to @srisaflorence for hosting me this past year— I am so grateful. A special thanks to the staff, art residents, and students who gave me critiques, worked on my show, and supported me through the year. It was truly an experience of a lifetime. <3

It was an honor to exhibit 10 small-scale oil paintings alongside @danielkukla ‘s sculpture and photography at @futurefairs a week ago. Thanks to @mattnasser and the team @theemptycircle for the opportunity! And it was lovely to see everyone who came by the booth.

This week, stop by Future Fair (@futurefairs) for a duo presentation featuring new works by Daniel Kukla (@danielkukla) and Catherine Webb (@catherine.webb.studio).
Through different media, including sculpture, painting, photographic collages and mixed media, the presentation explores shifting relationships between ecology, identity, materiality, and the human impulse to shape and understand the world around us.
Together, Kukla and Webb create an immersive presentation grounded in transformation and perception. Moving between fragility and resilience, observation and emotion, their works consider how individuals relate to the environments they inhabit while proposing new ways of seeing, interpreting, and caring for the world around them.
📍 Future Fair, 535 West 28 Street, New York
🗓️ Through Saturday, May 16

📣 Join us today at Future Fair (@futurefairs) for our debut presentation at the fair, featuring new works by artists Catherine Webb (@catherine.webb.studio) and Daniel Kukla (@danielkukla).
At the fair, Webb presents new oil paintings that merge portraiture, abstraction, and landscape through a vivid and materially expressive visual language. As an advocate for environmental justice, Webb is committed to ecological preservation and approaches painting as both an act of personal reflection and a way to communicate her desire for a better future. Applying paint directly to the canvas with a palette knife, Webb builds dense, tactile surfaces that feel simultaneously intimate and expansive. Her vibrant palette and physical approach to mark-making emphasizes painting as an embodied process, one deeply connected to memory, care and the natural world.

Catherine paints primarily with her palette knife or her fingers, preferring a direct relationship between color mixing and the canvas surface. By building up color and textures, Catherine creates multilayered experiences of immediacy and intimacy.

Catherine Webb (b. 2000) grew up in Southern California and is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in both Studio Art and Environmental Justice at Yale University. As an emerging oil painter, Webb works in figuration, abstraction, and landscape to create intimate works.
Art begins with attention. @catherine.webb.studio gives hers generously: mixing color by hand, painting from life, and looking deeply enough to truly see her subjects.
Through @thestudyat_yale’s ongoing collaboration with @yaleschoolofart, the hotel’s Aisling gallery offers students a first public space to share their work beyond campus.
Catherine’s work is one example of how the gallery introduces guests to New Haven’s world-class arts community and the next generation of artists—often at the very beginning of their public journey.
