When I asked Skye Dyer what lesson from her dad (the late, legendary @drwaynedyer ) she turns to on the hardest days, she shared some strong nuggets:

“If you have a choice between being right or being kind… choose kind.”

And then there was this:

@skyedyer took us to a question her dad would often ask his audience….

“What comes out of an orange when you squeeze it? And someone would say.. orange juice. And he would say, ‘Okay, why?’ It’s because it’s an orange 🍊 So he would say, ‘What comes out of you when someone squeezes you?’…. And it could be love, it could be kindness, it could also be hatred. It could be just so many things. And I think that always just resonated so much with me that if we are squeezed enough…. what is going to come out of us? ✨ Kindness is what connects us all. Through loss, the people that show up, that’s kindness. That’s everything to people that have been through something like this.” 🧡

@weareempower_ shows up. It’s an organization that supports kids and young adults who have lost a mom or dad through mentorship, community, and a quiet reminder that they aren’t alone. This year, I didn’t really feel called to celebrate my birthday the usual way.

I’ve learned that certain dates carry more than just candles and cake…
they hold memory, perspective, and a little bit of everything in between.

So instead, we gathered.

A room filled with conversation, honesty, and people willing to share parts of their story that aren’t always easy to say out loud.
The kind of night that reminds you how powerful it is to simply be seen… and to see others.

What stayed with me most wasn’t any one moment, but the feeling in the room.
That quiet understanding that we’re all carrying something… and none of us are meant to carry it alone, especially kiddos.

There was my birthday in there, yes…
but more than anything, it became a reminder of what really matters.

✨ The most meaningful thing you can do with your one life? Show up in someone else’s.

That was the through-line of every voice on the panel at Celebrate + Empower… a PK night in partnership with @weareempower_ 🧡 a national nonprofit supporting children and young adults who have lost a parent

We gathered at The Boca Raton to strengthen Empower’s South Florida chapter and lay the groundwork for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day events for local kiddos next year, just like they do at Gillette Stadium in Boston each year

The people who change a child’s life aren’t always experts.

They’re the ones who show up.

🏕️ The friend who takes a fatherless boy to camp for nine years.

🥯 The neighbor who leaves bagels on the doorstep.

📞 The mentor who simply says… I’ve been where you are. You’re not alone. Let’s talk about it. Or not today. I’m coming to your game. Let’s grab lunch….

When Cara lost her mom at nine, she began a journey that would one day inspire something powerful.
