This may be one of the most incredible birds I've come across so far in my birding travels. This Semipalmated Sandpiper is luecistic, meaning it lacks all pigmentation everywhere but the eyes, giving them a toasted marshmallow look. The condition is already somewhat rare and actually seeing an adult luecistic bird is rarer still due to increased predation and difficulty hunting themselves. The difference in color can even cause other members of their species to reject them, though luckily this particular bird seemed to be associating just fine with the other Sandpipers.

Mallards are such an underrated duck, but being the most ubiquitous duck in the world means they just blend into the background of many parks, rivers and lakes across the globe. This Male Mallard is relaxing on a waterfall that's a little more powerful than usual after some recent rainfall.

Some years I dont see a single Tennessee Warbler in migration, and other years they show up right in front of a neighbors house! I had a lovely conversation with the homeowners on this random street in downtown Dover after they came outside to ask what I was looking at Just goes to show that birds can appear pretty much anywhere this time of year

Had to rescue this American Bullfrog from the middle of the road by my work this morning; they were absolutely huge, just about the size of my foot. Hopefully they can hop back to whichever pond they were trying to get to!

You can never tell who is going to show up in migration, and sometimes its the common birds that can be the most exciting! This American Robin has a pigment abberation called luecism which means it cannot create the dark pigments that would normally color its back and head, but can still produce those pigments in certain places (such as the eyes)

The Piping Plovers are back! Had nine of them hanging around on Hampton Beach this morning, loafing about and making piping calls as they are ought to do. Remember to give them plenty of space this summer while at the beach, and keep your dogs leashed and your cats indoors. The plovers will thank you!

A Northern Watersnake peeks out of the water at Deer Hill WMA. Amazingly, I had only seen Common Garter Snakes in New Hampshire before today, so getting to see my lifer Northern Watersnake and Common Ribbon Snake within 5 minutes of each other made for a really exciting afternoon!

While out looking for a Dickcissel on the outskirts of the UNH campus, I happened to spot this Red Fox running across a large open field. They would occasionally stop and pounch, catching Meadow Voles with surprising accuracy (they were 2/2 while I observed, a fantastic success rate for a Red Fox)

A fun suprise after leaving @auspicious.brew today, I decided to check on the ducks by the mill and happened across this Ring-necked Duck! Not a particularly rare duck for New England but certainly an unusual spot to find one, and a first record for downtown Dover!
