✨Friday CAC Volunteer Spotlight!✨
Say hello to the incredibly talented Shelley Caldwell. Shelley is a connector, artist, and fantastic volunteer member of the Carnegie's Gallery Committee. We will be hosting an exhibition of her work, entitled Sustenance, November 6-21. You won't want to miss it!
Shelley earned both a BFA and MA in Drawing and Installation from Minnesota State University, Mankato. She has served as adjunct faculty at MNSU and as Visiting Instructor at Gustavus Adolphus College. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions throughout greater Minnesota in venues such as the 410 Project, SooVAC, the Carnegie Art Center, Arts Center of Saint Peter, Paradise Center for the Arts, Hutchinson Center for the Arts, The Grand Center for Arts & Culture, The Waseca Art Center, Hallberg Center for the Arts, Red Rock Center for the Arts, Austin ArtWorks Center, and others. She held residency at the Tofte Lake Center outside Ely, MN and has received grants from the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council, Springboard for the Arts, and the Minnesota State Arts Board. Compelled by the surrounding landscape, she presently works from her family farm in rural Faribault county. Learn more about Shelley and her work at: https://www.shelleycaldwell.com/

How to Kill Yourself Quickly and Painlessly
Description
A short video consisting of hand-drawn animation and live action footage. The film visually shows how reconciling with a past traumatic event is a messy and vicious endeavor. The film will be at Mecca:)
Artist statement: Cam Kaleda
My creative practice exists at the crossroads of design and authentic expression. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design from Black Hills State University and currently work as a Marketing and Communications Coordinator, bringing professional experience in visual communication to my artistic work.
In this work, I explore the emotions behind traumatic and toxic friendships in conjunction with other emotionally complex experiences that one lives through. The art showcases the grief of betrayal, the fear of reoccurrence, and the anger that arises after everything settles.
Rooted in the digital yet grounded in material process, I navigate a balance between precision and intuition. Chance, texture, and hand-built marks disrupt rigid systems, allowing visual language to move beyond fixed interpretations.

Living in a rural environment, you witness the wonders of the natural world & learn to be resourceful with what is readily available. This profoundly impacts my work as a multidisciplinary artist. I am driven to accentuate the ordinary, to highlight how the overlap in the supposed mundane of our individual lives unites us. However simple, there is great value in the surroundings, experiences, & fellow lives that cohabit our existence. My purpose is to unify art & nature-to re-prioritize what is most essential to grow, heal, forge new paths, & revive what is inherent in us all.
