Deep End is back at @thegoldmark Thursday, May 28th for another edition of the deepest party in Pittsburgh. This month I'll be joined by some real heavy hitters. Coming all the way from Tulsa, Oklahoma, @heartwerkdj is making his Goldmark debut alongside Pittsburgh favorite, and no stranger to the Goldmark DJ booth, @buscrates and myself.

HeartWerk has established himself as an active part of the electronic music scene in Tulsa and beyond, drawing influence from house, disco, and techno among other genres. HeartWerk is straightforward in capturing atmospheres through his brand of “moody house music”, and by being hard-at-work in building an electronic community. HeartWerk has releases on True Romance, The Basement Discos, Low, Critique, LoDisco and more. His sets showcase a love for music and an obsession with making people move on the dance floor.

Buscrates: Buscrates is a DJ, musician, and vinyl junkie from the Steel City of Pittsburgh. Since childhood, he has always gravitated to the myriad of sounds coming from the stereo system of his father, who did some DJing in the early ’80s. Anything from Roy Ayers to Steve Miller to Gil Scott-Heron could be heard at home on a Saturday morning. A very young Crates (neé Orlando Marshall) had his first experience behind a set of turntables in the summer of 1986 when a local DJ at a party let him get on the turntables while doubles of Cameo’s “Word Up” 12-inch single spun on the Technics 1200s. Although he has a wide range of inspirations, the most influential are the drum machine and synth heavy grooves of early-mid ’80s boogie and the sample-laden, neck-snapping MPC sequences of early ’90s hip-hop. His productions can lean one way or the other, or be a mixture of both. In addition to his vast knowledge of music, he has lately become known for being an analog synthesizer aficionado.

Hello, everyone. I took a much needed social media break. Thank you to everyone who reached out to check on me. Thank you to my real ones who held me down. Dealing with a lot, but I’m trying to claw my way through. I’m gigging a lot this week. I swapped out the screen on my MPC3000 last night. I lived life a little bit, but quietly. I encourage anyone to take some time off these platforms sometimes. It can make a difference in your mental health.

Hard launching poster !! Improvised music at Daby’s! May 23rd 9pm 🤪💜👾I’ve wanted to do a series like this for a very long time. Excited to play with these amazing musicians and humans :). I’m making a theme for each show so think purple - like these viney flowers - you don’t have to wear it but feel it ! Show is PWYC/NOTAFLOF. There will be some limited supply (however much I decide to make) of homemade pastries with options for V/GF buddies !! Some of you have already, but feel free if you want to play with me at a future iteration to dm me :). Any kind of sound making welcome!

This iPad x MPC combo is crazy!
Nerd alert 🚨 lol..I chopped these drums off a 45, laid em out in Koala Sampler, sent em through my Moog Mother 32 and then into the Boss SP-303, and finally into the MPC3000 where I sequenced everything (except the synth lead). There’s an additional instance of Koala with the sample chops, that was also sequenced on the 3G. I love the process so much and sometimes I learn some things along the way. Yeah, I totally lost track of time doing this 🤣 #mpc3000 #koalasampler #iPadMini7

13 minutes and 5 seconds of straight up FUNK. Nice 1982 Canadian press 12” single that plays at 45rpm and stretches out to mere millimeters away from the actual label. Great picture sleeve that relates closely to the Gap Band IV LP from where this song originates in a much shorter form. I love when records are made like this. #TheGAPBand #1982 #FUNK
